Smile Going to get a Uniden BCD396XT

This is my first post, so bear with me. I just want to know the things that I need to get me going in the right direction. 1: Good case
2: Good base antenna for all around frequencies, and mobile
3: Good truck or car holder for radio, also stand for inside home.

I haven't had a scanner for years, so I'm green as green can be. I know its going to be a challenge to learn the new stuff, but I'm able and willing.

Congrats, the 996XT was my first one and only at this point. If you join hear and use freescan programming is easy. I had never programmed one before and it only took me a few hours. I lost my programming cable so I am having to order a new one. With the cable, paid membership here and freescan you find your channels you want and import them into a list and once you get all you want upload and go. It has been a great first experience for me no doubt. My next buy is my HAM once I get my license.

I use the radio shack 800 MHz antenna with a BNC adapter, I use ProScan for programming and every thing else you would like to do or see on your computer, I also use the leather case that Uniden offers on there web site it is able to clip on to my GoldWing so I can listen to it via my audio system.

Welcome to Radio Reference.

1. For a good case check out these:

Uniden Bearcat Carry Cases for Police Scanner Radios

2. Some base antenna choices would be these:

Comet DS150S discone antenna

Diamond D-130J discone antenna

Antennacraft ST2 scanner antenna

Diamond X50A dual band ham radio antenna (For VHF and UHF)

Now for a mobile antenna the Larsen NMO tri-band or a Larsen NMO 2/440 would be a good choice

3. Check out this inside the home stand:

Desk Mount for One Portable Scanner

I have used a PanaVise 777 ClipCaddy Holder with a vehicle specific mount for a Uniden Bearcat BCD396T and it worked out great!
