Question BC898T Airport frequencies for Oregon

How do you program am on my bc898t?
I do have add so please bare with me. lol, Pdx Portland is am so for some reason when i try typing in the freq I keep getting the error code.
I can program trunking freq and talk group ids all day long but for some reason I cant get the am freq dialed in.
I have the bctb and bc898t and still dont understand what I am doing wrong. Yes I have read the manuals .

Anyone?

It's been many years, but I remember being frustrated too - I think I had to press "E" first, enter the freq, and press "E" again? It's been a few years so that may be wrong.

Somewhere too I think I had to change the mode to AM, and then program the freq for some strange reason. It's been so long this could be wrong....

Is it defaulting to the correct frequency step size or do you need to change it?

No it just gives the error code, i have been pressing the trunk then bank then settings like e2-high e2-vhf e3-uhf and so on before i try programming the frequencies and then bam! error code.
whats the correct setting for am frequencies ? am I trying to program it wrong? Its almost like I am trying to program am into trunking mode and that's whats giving the error code.
my trunking setting is e2-custom .

You need to first be on the channel you wish to program into AM mode and not scanning through a trunked system. If it is in a trunked system, shut off the trunked banks then press MANUAL until you get to the channel in question. Then press MODE until you get to AM. It works on mine fine.

AM is for civilian air band, roughly 108-136 MHz and Milair band, 225-380 MHz. Everything else should be NFM or FM

I had the BC895XLT and it was similar to the 898, if your listening to a trunked system, press the TRUNK key to bring it back to conventional mode. Then try to program your air frequencies and mode.

MANUAL
turn knob (on channel setting) until you are on the target channel
press MODE until it is on what you want
hit scan

If an airband channel is on FM or NFM, it would seem that the button was working at one time as the default should be AM.
There is never a time where it refuses to change on my radio. Is your radio is decent shape? Perhaps the button is not working? Last choice would be to reprogram it.
