Yes, the 396/996 both skip over encryption. You don't get the angry robot sound with those.

The gre 500 WILL skip over encrypted frequencies and talkgroups if entered in a list then locked out.

the problem is using the "Wildcard", u can L/O the "ENC" TG's but there back when u monitor the wildcard for a Starcom tower...I would like to see "new " TG's but my city is now "ENC" on T113-Will Co and make a mess of the WCard...I have put it in the "NS" list and transfer TG's over to a #ed list but must put up with awful noise in the process?....

If the type of encryption used is Motorola's ADP, the scanner will stop on the channel/talkgroup and you will hear gibberish. We have some of these in use in our area, and the channels have to be locked out by hand.

Ya know ronin that's the strange thing that seems to vary with different listeners who use the 197/600 or the 106/500 , I don't hear the encrypted tg again even with the wildcard open when the tg is entered in a list and then locked out?? The only thing I can figure, is that there's a difference in my settings, because I hear encryption in new tg's that pop up but that's it. Both Bpd and Npd, county and ISP use crap loads of enc, but luckily I don't hear them.
This has always been a mystery with this series of GRE radios.
I had this kit at one time, then sold it before building it. This may be an idea to try to notch or tune out the encrypted audio, but the radio would still lock on it.

The 996T, 396XT, and 996XT all skip encrypted traffic on P25 trunked sites. They do not skip it on digital conventional traffic.
The 396T doesn't skip any encrypted traffic.

Yes, i have the Uniden 396-996 "XT" models and they skip the "ENC" very nicely....On the RS197/106 if i list the enc-TG's and L/O they are skipped as long as ur scanning , but when i monitor only the "Wildcard", THERE BACK....O-well it could be worse....

My 396XT stops on encrypted channels-doesnt blare the noise, but it stops there and will remain there until talk stops. Then, the delay time after. But it has an EXCELLENT p25 voice decode-good SCANNER..

It will stop on conventional encrypted traffic but not on trunked encrypted traffic.
