LOL, been adding alpha ID's on my 396xt and 996xt for at least 12 months..

However, I too am holding out hope that the new firmware will add unlimited 'SD card based' memory, color touchscreen and auto deciphering of P25 encryption (amongst other things).

Am I setting myself up for disappointment?

Nah. Should be possible.

I hear beta testers already report it works with ProVoice encryption too!

How about sub-etha waveband support? Everyone else in the galaxy is using it but us. And we've already figured out how to bang the rocks together!

Thumbs down Upcoming 396XT Firmware Update

HAH ! One more Firmware Update that I will not be able to install. I just did my GRE-800 in a couple of minutes to Ver:U1.7 with the P25 II upgrade.
Was never able to do my Uniden 246, 330 or 125 so sold them. I guess it will be the same with the 396XT.
If you want a scanner you can update easily get a GRE. If you get a Uniden plan on using it with whatever Firmware it comes with. A real bummer.

That is a bummer. I haven't had a single problem updating Firmware. Not one.

I'm willing to bet that you could post that 396XT for sale and get some decent money for it. Then your worries would be over.

What would you take for it? Any accessories included?

My educated guess would be that you would get the same response
as in the past...that Uniden America only handles firmware updates for
Uniden America Scanners and that they can only speak for the models
of scanners they support within the Uniden America product line.
I wish I had a better response for you

Wow. If one takes the time to read and follow the directions, one will find the update process easy regardless of whether the update is for GRE or Uniden. I have done many updates on both GRE and Uniden radios both without any issue.
More times than not any issues with accomplishing firmware updates have to do with the person doing the updates not following the update steps exactly as specified.
Tell you what: I hope you enjoy your PSR 800 and I will enjoy my radios from both companies that have the latest and greatest in firmware.
Happy Monitoring

It's funny, I've updated a BC796D, BR330T, BC346xt, BCD396t, BCD396xt, BCD996t, BCT15, BCT15x, and a GRE500. None of them were particularly difficult and the only problem I had was when I tried to apply the 396XT update to a 996XT.

I have to think that the problem isn't with the scanners.

I don't belive that there has ever been a case of firmware not able to be upgraded from any other cause besides user error.

Instructions are included for a reason.... to be followed.

As usual, those people that don't take the time to read and follow those simple instructions, will always come here to the forums and claim "It's the radio's fault".

THAT'S the real bummer my friend, not your radio!!

Maybe you should read on the GRE and Radio Shack forums how many people constantly have trouble with their firmware upgrades. Reading that might open your eyes a little.

But then again....... If you can't read instructions.......

Ok I think the CaptnCarp situation has been explained enough.
Lets please keep this thread on topic of the upcoming 396XT firmware update.
Thanks!

I did my BCD396XT firmware update to 1.10.00 last year with no problem. I took my time and followed the instructions. It really wasn't a big deal The scanner has been awesome for me.

I am looking forward to the LSM update because I am in a dual zone that does simulcasting from both a north zone and also a south zone. Hopefully the update will clear up some choppy audio that occurs once in a while.

Anybody know an approximate ETA on the new firmware update to 1.11.01? Waiting patiently.

Before I asked this, I did searching in this thread and the other and found no info.
What about the 996XT and home patrol models do we know 100% for sure will they get a firmware update too?

Please reread my first post

That is the only info available at this time.
There is no info yet on any other updates for any other models.
Though it stands to reason that Uniden would probably update the other models as well. Makes no sense for them to put the R&D and testing time into an update for only one of their current models
