Shouldn't the link to the CURRENT firmware be left on that page until the new one is available?

Wrong page. You're looking at the "static" page that Marshall posted, whatever the heck that's for (posting that link is apparently causing more confusion than it's worth). Take a look at the actual live page, the one that Paul always links to:
BCD396XTFirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

Thank you, Jacob. Since the prevalent link that seems to indicate it is taking you to the file BCD396XTFirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki only redirects you to a text field on the same page, and there is no mention of attachments anywhere other than the absolute bottom of the page- this was not the easiest to locate. Maybe that part of the page should be set to be visible instead of collapsed by default?
Now if we could dispense with the non-constructive banter, that would be great.

Knock the personal jabs off.
If you have something worthwhile to add to the thread, feel free... Don't even bother posting the other nonsense or infractions will be issued.

I have the update in my hot little hands...and spent the better part of the afternoon trying to get our new updater configured correctly so that I could issue it. Unfortunately...looks like a Monday release.Two pieces of good news, though:
- When it is issued, you'll see that the new updater is just dumb simple (well, for you...as you can see, on the back end it has me a bit challenged right now). If you've updated a BC125AT, you've already seen it in action. You just tell it which scanner you have, which version you want to apply, and then hit "start." No need to cross your eyes and hit 4 buttons while tying your shoelaces to get it into update mode.
- If you have a HomePatrol-1, the release is available right now. So, if you really want the update today, rush out and buy a HomePatrol-1 tonight! Then, cruise over to the other thread before discussing that one, though, lest the thread pollution get any thicker than it already is.

What is the average error rate down to on various simulcast systems using the stock antenna?

Just got it for the Home Patrol, no problem with the update, but then again, there never is!

Regarding the upcoming 396XT update, will that work for the 996XT too? (perhaps that has already been addressed earlier in this thread, but I'm limited on time and can't look through all of the posts right now).

No. The 396 and 996 are different scanners.

I'm sure you will get it. He never mentioned the Home-Patrol and it was updated.

Paul, Can we use the older updater if it would still work for this update?

Well, the bad news is we have to wait just a little longer. The good news is that Uniden really does listen to our concerns and is trying pretty hard to make us happy customers and we all should appreciate that.
I'd think if they can fix the issue with the Home Patrol model and the 396XT, then a similar fix for the 996XTs can't be too far behind.

I'm looking forward to and waiting patiently for, "the update".
That said, I have noticed a pattern of human behavior and timing when it comes to these updates;
Several months or more BEGGING for an update.
Endless suggestions for feature enhancements, functionality and improvements, some of which can or cannot be achieved with a firmware update.
Ensuing debate, discussion and debate.
Inability to upgrade to the latest version, attributed to;
1) Hardware incompatibility. USB to Com Port Drivers. Failure to follow proven step-by-step instructions.
2) Failure to follow to-the-letter instructions, suggestions and advice.
Initial New Release Announcement.
More begging and speculation.
Software Release - Complaints about server response.
Criticism and nitpicking the new release whether real or perceived.
Rinse and Repeat...
This is only my observation.
Personally, I'm impressed that Uniden supports and upgrades their scanners after the purchase. I'm actually very happy with the scanners I have purchased - just the way they were when they arrived. I don't expect free upgrades to all of the consumer electronics devices I have purchased as a part of the original purchase price. Maybe we are spoiled. Think about it. Besides your mobile device which you pay for in other ways, which electronics do you own that you expect to be upgraded endlessly for free?
I choose to wait patiently for the update. If I don't like it, I'll reload what I had before the update.
JUST my 2 cents. If you disagree, please move on to the next post. Thank you.

Yes, I understand that as I have both. To clarify my question, since the 996XT is the desktop/mobile version of the 396XT (portable), will the upcoming update work on both models. It sure would be nice if it did.
