For a small Fee one could be added to a new Tower unit that is minus this Port. I have seen many of them at a Local computer store as for a laptop it may be a little harder to port a hole.. Ra

Maintrunk,
Keep in mind this update may actually make your P25 reception worse. Prior to update my 396xt did pretty well with P25 simulcast systems using LSM. After the "update" my digital decode is worse -- scanner has difficulty locking onto control channel. You will find many others in this thread who have the same results. While some have improved reception, keep in mind you may not be happy with the "update" at all. And yes, I have fiddled with the "hidden" digital settings to no avail.
I wish Uniden would address this rather than just being silent about it and pretending it isn't happening. Too many others are having problems. Denial is pretty poor customer service.
Just sayin'...since you've encountered grief so far already.
BG..

10-Q very much.. Thats what I thought.. Eh, my p25 systems around me are conventional anyway. It has excellent reception as is.. Also, off beat here--I hang my 396xt from the sun blocker in the car... I have a hard time pushing the buttons correctly, cause I cant see it--while driving.. The old Knight Rider show--how Michael pushed those buttons over his head fast and accurate is impossible..Yeh so, I'll wait for something worth while to download. Like mototrbo, pro voice, tetra, nexden, and V-folders. Like the compitition has...Tanx Butch!!

I understand this scanner came out in 2009, and has trouble decoding P 25 digital transmissions. Is this true? If so, wouldn't I be better off saving my money until the problem is corrected on a later model? I have worked with computers since I bought the first IBM PC. I am not to the point where I would consider myself computer savvy, as much that is discussed on here is way above my head. I have a good friend that is up on all of this, so I will ask him also. You guys should be proud of yourselves for the amount of understanding you have. I progressed beyond crystal scanners, and in fact have 3 trunk tracker scanners that I actually made work well, then came re-banding. Now I feel kinda lost, lol.

Well sir, I had to learn the whole gig by joining a fire club. thats the 1st step. They showed me scanners-receivers, but I learned programming by trial and error. The manuals helped. Thats just up to my 1st digital scanner.. Learned pl and dc quick.. Next thing I know NAC is created..Got that, and ltr systems,,The internet had alot of info...-Thats how I got in.. Now, time to learn the computer.. Mine crashed--$$$ later, here I am... That update should be on a disc, I'm not too fond of plugging it into an unlimited network where virusses roam..

I have trouble with distored sound on Miami Dades new P25 harris system - I have a BC396XT (just updated to firmware 1,11,01) - on the 851-854 frequencies the sound is still terrible - and it does not stay on the control channel allthough the signal is very strong - what is the problem?

The very strong signal might be the problem. Try using the attenuator and see if that helps.

I allready tryed it - it is not the problem - when att is on there is just 2 bars on the signal strengh. Also - it will not stay on the control channel - but on the other system it allways stays on the control ch (769,08125) and when they test the sound is perfect. So i dont get why the 851-854 mhz will not work properly

I noticed a significant improvement in receiving the Louisville MetroSafe P-25 simulcast system. There was a substantial reduction in the amount of garble, though the audio isn't pristine, which brings up the following question:
Can simulcast audio be further "tweaked" by P-25 mode/level/adjustment settings?

ok so idid the update last night. i had just bought the radio and it was still at 1.04. and it was working fine didnt have any garble. now after the update i am getting a lot of garble. machine gun sounds like its delayed in decoding the digital signals. im in san diego and we run a mot2/p25 hybrid system and after this update it seems every third message has garble. any way to adjust the step it is a splinter system or so ive read. the only thing i can think is the step is wrong its need to 12.5 but my pro 96 very rarely had garble. wish it didnt meet my back tire. i was pleased with the uniden till now any help on this would be appreciated

I had the same problem after the update on the Ohio MARCS and went back to 1.10.00 version, all is back to normal now. If you scroll back through this thread you will see this has happened to some. Go to BCD396XTFirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki scroll to bottom of this link and you see attachments to previous versions.

Me and another RR member, also in San Diego, had the same issues with the RCS system. The new firmware renders the radios useless on the RCS.......unless you like listening to 2-4 seconds of blaring open static sounds at the beginning of each transmission.
Me and the other guy reverted back to the previous firmware.......I am too busy at the moment to search for it, but I believe the links to the old firmware/install instructions and my issue are posted earlier on this thread somewhere. Good luck!

Found it......
BCD396XTFirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki
Reinstall the old update program, and just flash the radio with the old firmware version as instructed, will return the scanner to normal.
