What is Changed by This Update?
This update improves performance on APCO Project P25 sites operating using Linear Simulcast Modulation (LSM)
That doesn't provide much information.
How is performance improved? Is the decode error rate supposed to improve? Or is the audio supposed to improve despite decode errors?
Should the P25 Mode and level settings be applied? Or is the improvement in this release dependent on Auto threshold adjustment?

The only update available through the updater at this time is for the 396XT.
There has not been any announcement of an update for the 996XT at this
time.

I finally figured it out, Loaded and running good. Well one thing I did notice was after my update my P25 systems were not working, for some reason the update locked them all out. After I unlocked them everything was fine.

Now that some of you have applied the update, I'm waiting to hear some results.

Me to, I'd also like to see a reply to the post by DDan.

I've downloaded and installed it and have been monitoring the Michigan MPSCS system (Washtenaw Simulcast) which is a LSM (CQPSK) system and I haven't noticed any huge advances in the audio quality so far. Sounds the same as the previous version so far; however, I have noticed the voltages are now all over the place when decoding instead of just a few degrees either way from my default setting of 8... More time is needed for testing at this point.

Similar to what I noticed in Monroe Co over the Christmas break. It seemed to do a little better if I eliminated all the other frequencies in the control channel list, but that may have been my imagination.

I have noticed with the 396 that you must get rid of everything except the control channels and alternates. For whatever reason, the broken digital traffic appears to confuse the scanner. I've also seen this on the GRE products as well.

Has anyone had problems using the Updater with satellite internet? Downloaded the Updater zip file with no problem but after installing the Updater and trying to run the program it responds "internet access failed". My internet connection is active.

Make sure you disable any firewalls temporarily while doing the update.

Like everyone else, the update was painless. So my question is, what will this do? How do I activate it etc???

As mentioned several times, it improves performance on LSM systems.

Tried using the Updater with no firewalls on, still "internet access failed". I uninstalled the updater and reinstalled it, still no luck. I'm going to download the program again and try a fresh install.

Just updated. Too simple of a process if you ask me. There is pretty much nothing that can go wrong if you just follow the already simple directions.

The updater downloads the firmware from an FTP server at Uniden. Be sure there is nothing on your computer blocking access to the FTP server.

Basics of asking for help:
Detail step by step EVERYTHING that you did. When it stops, or doesn't act like you thought it should, detail what it did/did not do.
Saying "it doesn't do a thing" is useless.

Some internet service providers do something that futzes with FTP. I've seen this issue discussed several times in various forums. IIRC, it has something to do with a "Turbo" setting.

As a follow up to my earlier comment, after hours of listening to a busy fire scene and several other audio varying sources; I have to say that when the signal strength remains strong (3 bars +) then the new firmware does a really nice job with the LSM (CQPSK) systems; at least with regard to the MPCSC system in Michigan. I'll be mobile tomorrow and I'll try this on various simulcast systems throughout the state to see how it reacts.
Any idea of when the BCD996XT is going to see this update? I'm setup base/mobile with this and it would be nice to give it a try there as those scanners are really bad with the LSM systems around here.
Nice update Uniden and thanks UPMAN for keeping us all in the loop.

I did get the updated firmware to download to the Uniden 396XT. I am hearing a big difference on Indianapolis Department of Public Safety(MECA) Rdale. Yes it would not do anything on the download until I tried it again and it went pretty quick.
