Sounds like you are running the install program again. There should be a new program now in your start menu in a folder UNIDEN. Run that.

You are trying to run the setup.exe file a second time after you already installed it, instead of running the program itself.

Click the Windows start button, then..... all programs, Uniden, BC_VUP3

Thanks guys, that did it! Almost too easy!! All went well. I just got a new laptop with Windows 8; that's a whole other story. Learning curve plus; thank God for Classic Shell!! Have a fine evening.

UPMan,

Some people may be having problems running your tool because it doesn't use PASV mode (at least didn't for me), and so may not be able to perform transfers for users behind certain NATs.

Also, would you care to comment on Uniden's stance on updating the loader to allow loading firmware from file again in future?

I'm in Louisville as well. I got a BCD396XT for Christmas. In comparison to my old scanner everything sounds better. Especially Metrosafe transmissions.

I installed the new FW on the HP1E and the 396XT and I can say the few simulacst systems I monitor do sound much better now than they sound on my 996XT which is my main radio. Of course Uniden has not release a FW update for the 996XT yet but I hope they do soon.

I was worried I'd be going back to older firmware on the 396XT at least from some of the negative reports I've read but I must say, it has helped in a big way so my fears are gone!
I'm glad as the HP1 is not as easy to go back with unless someone kept the scn firmware file before they unplugged the usb cable. As I understand it, the firmware files are erased from the radio as soon as the update is sucessful. Uniden should make the older FW available for the HP1.

There is an easy way to get a copy of the *current* Home Patrol firmware if you didn't get it before it was erased.

Without connecting the Home Patrol to your computer...... just put any memory card or thumb drive into your computer, and tell Sentinel that's your Home Patrol.

Ditto that. Behind a business firewall, it installs on the local computer fine but won't work at all when it tries to FTP back to Mother. Normal web access to Uniden works normally, but the FTP is blocked.

Question Scanner is silent since update. What happened?

Since I updated the firmware this morning my scanner has mostly gone silent. I'm no longer picking up any of the local Louisville MetroSafe P25 traffic. Has something changed with this update that I need to adjust in the settings? I have the BCD396XT.

Thanks for that info! I wish I'd known that one before the update!

Make sure the setting in the hidden menu are set to the default settings. The default should be 11 and 50 for the P25 Adjust Mode and P25 Adjust level.

This default has been mentioned a couple of times now. It is incorrect. The default P25 Mode is 3. A setting of 3 allows automatic setting of the threshold level. The Mode setting of 11 was not possible until 1.10 firmware and places a limit on the automatic adjustment of the threshold level.

So should I set the P25 Mode to 3 or 11?

I think you should try 3 first as it allows the full range of threshold auto adjustment. If that gets you back to some level of reception, then you can try 11 to see if there is an improvement.

+1

I agree with DDan. You should start with 3 and let the automatic adjustment do its thing. If that doesn't work for you, then you can always go back and make manual adjustments. Good luck!

Nothing AT ALL. This is about the 3-9-6,not the 386XT (whatever this is).

The default P25 Mode is 3. Adjust level setting of 3 previous to1.10 firmware.

3 used to be the default but when the previous update came out Upman posted this comment if you look at the first page of the sticky for the last update that came out in 2012 for the 396XT and 996XT the default changed to 11 and 50:

To adjust the decode threshold, start with the scanner powered off. Then, follow these steps:
1. While holding down the HOLD button, power on the scanner.
2. Access the hidden P25 Adjust Mode menu by MENU --> Settings --> P25 Adjust Mode.
3. Set the mode to 11, which is the optimal setting for most P25 systems.
4. If you have previously adjusted the P25 Adjust Level, reset it to a value of 50 by MENU --> Settings --> P25 Adjust Level.

So that is why I now say the default is 11 and 50.

Thanks,
Mike

I have mine set at p25 mode set at 8 and the p25 adjust at 50. Seems to be the sweet spot for me.

False. 3 was the only setting possible on 396XT prior to firmware level 1.10

From the Wiki: Setting the P25 Decode Level for the BCD396XT and BCD996XT and other tips

P25 Adjust Mode - This mode sets the algorithm for P25 decode. Leave it at 3. Anything higher than 3 will just act like 3. Anything lower will have the reduced performance of previous firmware versions on the 396T.
