Not sure how they are even in business anymore. Back in the days before the internet, they were just as clueless and expensive, but they were essential for electronics junkies. I recall drooling over Radio Shack, Lafayette and Burnstein-Applebee catalogs, among others.

Radio Shack was the king when I was a kid in the seventies....I went to my local store last week to pick up an 800MHz antenna and well, you all know the story. They are holding on by a thread the way I have it figured? Store is always empty, no customers.

The "salespersons" are clueless......maybe I am just getting old?

I wouldn't be so disgusted with the rat shack if they were just as incompetent as they are. HOWEVER, its the MISinformation that I get when I allow myself to talk to them that really drives me up the wall. They are like the alchemists of electronics. The sales people operate on wives tales and urban legend as if it were gospel.

One of my favorites is when I went into the Dubuque rat shack back when they first started carrying handheld GPS units in the late 90's. I asked the saleskid how accurate the position was from these GPS units. He said, and this is an exact quote: "Look, I'm gonna be straight with you. It's like a laser-beam hitting your car. It's THAT accurate." I almost p!ssed my pants.

First post and a thank you I went by a nearby RS and picked up the BCD396XT. I paid $419 plus tax. If I hadn't been lurking the forum I would have missed this one. Thanks again.

I got mine for 399.99 as that was the sale price when I posted the link.I had to pay sales tax so it ended up around $420 and some change.
