How am I, a Uniden repair center customer, going to know and understand this process if it is not posted or explained on your site?
If you or someone were to post that information on your site explaining it like you just did, maybe people would get a better understanding and be a little less frustrated about not knowing what is going on! Just a suggestion. Oh and thank you for posting this, I really appreciate it both as a RR user and as a Uniden customer.

N1SQB, look at the third post in this thread. You might notice something there.

I did Jacob! While I do appreciate your words, you are not Uniden and not everyone uses RR nor is everything sent in for repair, a scanner. The way Paul explained it is great and it should be posted on their website so EVERYONE who sends in something for repair, can understand the process.

I don't know who you are or why you feel you need to make that comment, but I will say this, You are 100% wrong. I appreciate Jacob's postings as I do everyone else s. I simply was trying to go in a different direction with a different point, that is all. I appreciate everyone's help and suggestions on this matter. Just because someone has a different point of view on a particular matter does not make them unappreciative. SO once again, to Jacob and everyone who contributed genuinely to this post, Thank you. From this point on, I will wait for my scanner now that I understand the process as Upman has explained it, and there need not be anything further said on this subject.

Well, the website shows that they replaced a diode and 2 resistors. It is on it's way to me via FedEx. Should arrive Thursday. We'll see how it performs!

I have a BC780xlt that I'm letting my daughter use, she enjoys listening to it to fall asleep. When I try that I'm up all night listening, I have to turn it off to get rest. And your right the manual was pretty good. I liked that scanner, one of my favorites.

I got my bc 780 Steve around Feb or March of 2001 an it did well in all area's of the spectrum for me that first year of owning it and there after) one of them was listening to aircraft. boy was it a great aircraft scanner..
One of a many first things to listen on it that year and one i won't forget is when 911 hit and hearing all of those pilots asking were do want us to Land! it was a hellish day around here even though we was far far away from what was going on it was still very active around here and we had the fair going on at the time.. there were allot of scared people here that day.
But i never once had an issue with my scanner through the 5 years of owning it even the Nav lights did very well) At not burning out..most of the time i had them set on Dim.
The only thing i wished i could of got it to scan well was the EDACS's system in our neighboring Co. and City i never could get it to follow it well. I scratched my head many times and one's told me you have scan the system by Logical order but no one ever could come up with the proper Order so i said the Heck with it.
But my HP-1 follows it really well and i haven't missed much when i can listen to it but i still hate here that beep that comes in over when the Units or dispatch talks.. and the further you get away from the System the longer the beep!
But other than that i'm kind of happy with it but in the back of my mind i'm still debating weather i should go with the 396xt or just keep what i got i guess it's like do i want to wear the white shorts or the blue!

If the HP1 tracks the system, the LCN information is in the RR database and you can use that information to program the 780. Have you looked?

My Final Thoughts!...
Well, it's over, my baby is back home working hard, scanning away with no issues to be found! I found out some things I did not know. First, Uniden considers the battery cover an "accessory". I don't know why that is. Second, the package was sent by Uniden from Texas via FedEx. However, FedEx only brought it up to the northeast area then turned it over to the USPS. When I saw it was in my town, I called my local post office and the supervisor held it for me to pick up when they open ( 9:00AM) instead of me waiting for delivery ( 2-3 PM usually). He told me that UPS,DHL, and FedEx all do this. It's called "the final mile" delivery or something like that. They don't consider it worth their time to deliver such low priority packages directly, so they give the USPS a small cut to deliver them. Go figure. Well, it worked out for me as I was able to go pick it up at my convenience and not have to wait for a truck all day. Anyway, as far as the radio goes, like I said before, it's back working without any issues, and I didn't even have to reprogram it. All the original data was still in tact. Just popped in some batteries and back in business. My only complaint, as a first time Uniden repair center user was not knowing what to expect and being in the dark about their repair practices and procedures. Hopefully I won't have to use them for any more repairs, but if I do, I will know what to or no to expect. My sincerest thanks to ALL who replied with assistance and information, especially UPman with his clarification of the repair center practices.

Congratulations Manny, I could feel your happiness as I read your post. I'm sure you're relieved. My 396T is on it's way back also, and I'm guessing that it will be transferred to USPS as was yours. If so, I will stop watching for the FedEx truck and start watching for the mailman. Fingers crossed!!

Fedex Smartpost has a contract with USPS. I have called the local post office twice to see if I can pick it up when the tracking status shows it is out at the post office. No point in waiting another day. I just tell the lady that works there what the box looks like, and that it's from Uniden and she says I can come get it.

The whole process is very frustrating. I sent in a friend's HP-1 for almost total deafness (He works at weird times and I was going to UPS anyway). There was some sort of bad solder joint in it, if you smacked it on the top, it would receive ok for like 10-30 seconds. Since it was under warranty, I didn't want to open it up and try to find it. So off it went. They got it in a few days, I think on Nov 7th. I told him just to wait, and be patient, that it would get back when it got back, and I gave him my "extra" PSR-600 to use until it showed up. Well, it finally did, and it wasn't fixed, they said it "all functions normal", the same thing they said when my deaf HP-1 was sent in. Since the warranty was about up, and another friend of ours claimed to know how to get it opened up, we took it over and let him open it up. There was an obvious bad solder joint where a plug was added to the board, well, basically, there was almost no solder on the joint at all. I hit it with the iron, and it was back up and running fine. I looked over everything and hit a couple of other bad looking joints, just to be sure. This stuff happens way too much, and Uniden isn't the only one, but they seem to be the worst at it, at least recently. I ended up selling him the PSR-600, for a decent profit. I've had some recent problems with a router, and it couldn't have been better, I got an email it had arrived, and another telling me it had been fixed and that it was shipped. The whole process from Ohio to Cal and back, took about 10 working days, and it was fixed, the thing works way better than it did the day I bought it, range is almost doubled, judging by all the idiots trying to get into my home network.

You better believe I'm happy as heck! This has not been the greatest of experiences. I hope your 396T is in proper working order. I can tell you that I had a pocket knife, antenna and batteries with me when I picked up the radio. I started to scan right there in my car right in front of the post office. LOL....I'ts a disease; D.S.W.S.= Digital Scanner Withdrawl Syndrome...

Sorry to hear about your HP-1 experience. I agree with you, it is a frustrating experience overll. They are quick to take your money but slow to do everything else. I will say this, while not my worse experience ever,I personally think they could do a LOT more to make the experience better and they simply refuse to. That will only change when it starts to affect their sales. Until then, expect these type of experiences to continue. Anyone can get you drooling with new products, Paul does an excellent job promoting their products. Unfortunately, not enough people like him on the service end where customer care is more sensitive and critical.

Uniden Repair Center Issues Still Exist!
I am not sure why you would rely on a passive website for the progress of the repair instead of calling them directly and insisting on speaking to a supervisor after rejecting their bs "the system is down" excuse.
