You're right - there are such things that are designed to protect those scanners we hold so dear, and will prevent those nicks and scratches that I(we) seem to acquire without even trying.

Therefor, as soon as this comment is posted, I will be heading elsewhere on the net to look up this item (which I obviously need) and make this purchase happen.

Thanks, Manny, for covering my six!

Russell
Russell, you're too funny! I'm able to advise you because I have had to learn my lessons the hard way! LOL..Been there done that as they say!

Look, let's just tell Russell to keep it away from ALL the tools just to be safe ey? This was a close call! LOL....

No worries Russ! Im glad it worked out for you and now im sure it looks great! I just had a feeling by looking at the pic that it had the protection film on it. I left mine on the BCT15X for a few months, but it finally peeled off this past summer lol

You can see where it had already peeled some on the side.

It let's it move it back in fourth just so slightly and i cut a hole were the speaker is to here it helps when doing the travel.. b

I/We learned something here through your experience;

1) Things are not always as they appear
2) Uniden Repair in the long run, exceeds expectations
3) Many people should not be allowed to have sharp objects

Thanks, Russ!

There is a good way to counteract that kind of call center attitude: You call everyday and be a pest so they get tired of you and want to get rid of you by helping you. The phone is a powerful communication tool.

Its not that simple. You can't squeeze lemon juice from an orange.

Thanks, Russ!

I'm competent enough to be entrusted with sharp objects....just remember, I drive around BDL with a truck carrying eight thousand gallons of Jet A fuel.....OH, nevermind, I see your point.

Thanks, DoctorD

Just received my 396T back today. Uniden received the scanner January 21. No issues with speed here! They did a fantastic job, with the new volume knob it even feels new in addition to looking new. Best $50 I ever spent. You have to appreciate the fact that they fix things I didn 't ask for!

How did you get a hold of them to pay them?? or even find out how much you needed to pay them? I sent my scanner in; it has been in their possession for 2 weeks now and i havent gotten a single letter, phone call or email regarding it. I tried calling twice (during business hours) and sat on hold for 30 minutes each time before giving up. Im not being sarcastic. 30 minutes, twice. This is completely unacceptable.

When i first filed the claim, i didnt even get an email confirming it or anything. Just a screen i printed out and sent with the scanner. I was left pretty much just sending in a $450 radio with a piece of paper, and hoping for the best..

I just followed the information on this link:

Product Repair - B2C Static Page at Uniden

You pay ahead of time for the repair, a flat fee of I belive $49.50, and there is a space for you to describe your problem(s). Once that process is complete there is a service number you can use after you send in the radio to check on the status.

Actually I wasn't having any trouble with the knob, other than it was more loose than when the radio was new. I didn't realize how loose until they replaced it. The radio was purchased new in 2005, so it was about 7 1/2 years old.

UPman, do you have any comment on this? i would really like to hear from you since you seem to be my only contact with uniden.. the repair status page on uniden.com hasnt changed for me in a while. 4 unanswered emails and numerous hours on hold, i still can not find out what is going on with my scanner, or if ill ever get it back. I feel as if im about to lose $450.. to me, thats alot of money, so its not a very good feeling. I got an invoice in the mail saying that if you dont hear from me within 20 days my scanner will be disposed of, but you guys wont let me get ahold of you! You (uniden) already have my payment information, and my permission to use it. besides consulting with an attorney on how to recover my $450, at this point, what am i supposed to do???

That SRO isn't coming back with anything. The other lookup I can do is by last name/zip code.

UPDATE: I need the SRO that was in the letter you received. Not the temporary SRO number you provided above.
