New model of Home Patrol anytime soon?
Anyone know of plans by Uniden to come out with a newer version of the Home Patrol? I have emailed Uniden but have not heard anything as of yet. Will probably be ordering one in the next few days but may hold off if a new model is coming out for 2013.
Sorry if this has been asked recently in another thread (I did do a search but could not find anything recent).
I have had my eye on a Home Patrol ever since they came out, and I am finally going to order one now that the price has come down a bit, at least from some online vendors. I was disappointed to see that uniden is still charging extra for the 'extreme" firmware upgrade or whatever it is; I understand there is some controversy there but I am in the camp that thinks that for $500 it should come with with it.
thanks
Mike

When will people understand and accept that Uniden does not talk about future scanner plans whether it is models or firmware updates UNTIL the time they are ready to release them.
Paul (UPMAN) must be fed up answering these same questions day after day...
So Mike...you will find out when they are ready to release new models the same time everybody else will.
Even if there are new models planned or in production, they are NOT going to tell us.

Jacob and Kirk,
Thanks for the info, I did not realize that Uniden held things so close to the vest. Now I do.
Thanks again

Yup..they don't even attend the big product shows/conventions anymore..like Paul (UPMAN) says..why should Uniden tipoff their competition to anythig they have planed or in production.

i understand UNIDEN not talking much, but i wonder how others would feel if they come out with a homepatrol but in the body type like a 996, personaly i would get one quick having a havis sheild console it would fit more into my car set up then having to mount it on top or the side of the console

I quite agree, I'd like to have one shaped more like the 996 though that would limit screen size and therefore usability. A handheld on the other hand could have a decent size screen taking up most of the front. I had a PSR800 but it had a less usable interface than the HomePatrol, due to it having a small monochrome non-touch screen.
Don't expect Uniden, GRE, or Radio Shaft to replace their digital scanners very often. They are too pricey to design, and the high cost limits sales. If they could afford to sell a digital for $250 or less, someone could corner the market and sell enough to come out with more frequent models.

You should expect one real soon....
Since I held out for my HP-1 for about a year or so and finally broke down and bought one back in the fall. Actually, I'm kinda surprised they didn't release a new one about 2 weeks after I bought it.
Jeff.

I would not worry about a new model being released soon. The scanner market has never been more stable than it is now. It seems like a combination of market saturation, weak economy, and falling demand have influenced the manufacturers to release new designs more slowly than in years past.

I'm sure there will be a Homepatrol-2 eventually but I would suspect not for a couple years at least, but no one really knows for sure except Uniden themselves.
