Oh man that is good!! LOL
I HAVE seen things that have a seal that if pulled off it is obvious it has been tampered with, however this is not the case with my scanner from what I can tell.

They put a sensor on one of the screws to the back cover, As soon as you turn it the video starts 18.14 seconds later.
Big brother is watching !
I have all my radios wrapped in aluminum foil so they have a harder time transmitting my picture.

Awesome idea! I think I will put aluminum foil on the walls of my shack so when I work on my radios I don't have to worry.... then the walls will match my hat!!
Hmm might make receiving difficult but it will be worth it to avoid voiding my warranties when doing simple repairs to my radios!
Ok I'm done now
I'm still curious if anyone would have advised Bob to send in his scanner to have the screen cleaned...

Getting warranty parts without sending in entire scanner - UPMan can you help?
Fred, you asked a question and we answered with our opinion. That's all, take it or leave it.
To answer your question about the screen being dirty on Bob's scanner, that is a good point, but the real point is that you will void the warranty once you open the unit. In some cases, maybe they won't know, but it's entirely possible that they do. So, it's worth taking a chance, I guess, at least with the less expensive models. I have not personally been in that position of having opened a unit and then sending it in for repair under warranty.
Anyway, you got it working, so at least there is a good result for you.
'Nuff said! ;-)
Happy scanning,
Jim

These idiots pulled the same crap on the GPS plug on the HOMEPATROL, the jack is a 4 pin Hirose type USB used on a lot of digital cameras. Less then $10 for 3 on Ebay. Soldered in place in less then 10 minutes and priceless for not having to send the scanner back to the Uniden idiot repair center. Sounds like anything on the scanner including the case screws are non user replacable by their definition.

I know some of you love to bash Uniden because you think you know better just because you know a little, but these types of warranty voiding policies exist with ANYTHING you buy. Its not a Uniden thing.

We live in a different world now. No one fixes their own stuff anymore, can't even change their own oil or their own flat tires or their own light switch in their house.
The attitude of your not qualified to do that and dependence on others seems to be the norm now, why bother to try when I can hire someone else to do it, it's safer after all.

You have every right to fix your own stuff, change your own oil, etc. What you don't have the right to do is all of that and then expect the experts to FIX WHAT YOU SCREWED UP if you do. Not saying you would, but do you really think everyone on the planet can perform minor surgery on their radios? Just reading these forums proves that point sometimes. You risk costing them more money in repairs after a botched fix-it job. But some will just never get it.

I think He understands if He fixes it, He is now the service man for it.
I'm surprise this thread hasn't been closed.

And Ronnie, I also agree that this thread has gotten way off track and way negative, I apologize for my part in that. It may be best to close this thread for the good of all.
