Default Question about Homepatrol on VIPER

While scanning the VIPER system here in NC, if I select "advanced" and then "site info", I notice that some are red and some are not. If I tap them, however, it just gives me the last/long and such. Does red mean the site is down? The manual mentions nothing about this at all.

Thanks

Perhaps the post should be moved to the NC forum?

Greyed out ones are the ones within your range setting and currently being scanned, red ones are outside your range.

It is applied on a trunk system when using geo-location

Same on all trunk ed systems anywhere. Change your range and watch it change.

No reason to move to NC forum.

So, how is it that "active site" shows one that's red? Hell, they're ALL red!

From the "Easier to Read HomePatrol Manual" Site:

Quote:
Gray sites indicate sites enabled by range. Red sites indicate sites disabled by range. Orange sites are avoided sites
So it seems you have not set the location or range correctly for your location or there are no VIPER sites within monitoring range listed for the current location. You can either adjust the location and/or range to better reflect your location or you can also disable using location control altogether if you know what you want to monitor and have the monitoring targets saved into a favorites list.
If you wish to disable location control for favorites lists you can do it easily from Sentinel by clicking "Edit" then "Edit Profile" then by selecting "Favorites List". You will see a listing of all of your Favorites Lists and you can turn Location Control on or off by selecting "yes" or No".

Marshall, I got it narrowed down, but my question is this: If a site is showing red, ie, "out of range", why would it also show as the active site at the top? Also, I live almost dead between rocky mount, wilson, and bailey, (tar river reservoir), and those sites routinely show up red.

Thanks,

Randy

Are you using a favorite or the entire database?
Location enabled?
And what is the range setting?
Is your location correct?

A favorite list, depending on how it's created may have several sites that are out of your are.

You can create by "Add channels on range" which for me in Ohio seems to add sites for the entire state.

You can also click on a section and add to the favorite.

If you are using this at a fixed location you can delete (or avoid) the sites that are out of range.
Example: I use one favorite exclusively ay home, no location based scanning needed and I have limited it to 2 sites.

Tip - if you are using a favorite with no location info. which is the default range can be anything, it has no bearing.

As to the original question, not sure why some are red. On my most used favorite with 2 sites both are grey.

I'm not sure if this is true on a Favorite with location off.
Gray sites indicate sites enabled by range. Red sites indicate sites disabled by range. Orange sites are avoided sites

I may have it figured out. I reset everything and started over. The right (closest) sites show up gray now and all others red. It also consistently stays connected to a logical site now.

Thanks

Embarrassing because we use VIPER at work, but scanning it is a whole new animal!

- just guessing - but was probably just one little thing wrong, maybe your initial / home location.

Glad to hear it's working.
