Default BC125AT doesn't charge when turned on?

My BC125AT arrived yesterday and I familiarized myself with a lot of its features last evening and programmed in the majority of my 'everyday listening" frequencies. The one thing I just noticed in the manual is that it says that it does not charge when the radio is turned on. Is there a reason for this? Maybe to reduce the chance of overcharging the batteries? That is the only thing so far that I do not like about this radio.

Dave-
Yes, I believe so. I had this AT-125 at one time. (Had problems with battery life runing too short and constant recharging)That scanner does NOT do trunking...are you aware of that or P-25 Digital? I see you have the BC-355N. How did u make out with that antenna problem?
Any questions you may have on that or anything else made by Uniden America Corp, I can answer as I am a dealer here in Lower Westchester County, NY mainly selling to firefighters and police officials.
Have a nice Friday and weekend and keep warm sir.

Bob, yes...I am aware that it is not a trunking scanner nor digital. For what I listen to, I did not require either of those things.

After much fussing with the BC355N, I opted to just make that my new base at home and bought the BC125AT to use in the car and as a carry-around.

What I was wondering about was why they designed it to NOT charge when connected to AC or DC if the radio is ON. Also, I saw in other threads that the charger is based on timing...not the actual charge of the batteries. i was hoping that Upman (who works for Uniden) could chime in on that.
