Default reband scan

i am using a bcd396t to scan 851 to 854 band and all i seem to get on my local system is a flash of the talkgroup in progress and no audio. the system is fine when loaded into the radio. oh and this is when control channel only is on.
could this have something to do with no band plan for searching?

Default Charlotte County Reband

I have never been to your part of the world, but in looking at the Charlotte county profile it appears your system has been rebanded. Rebanding is for mitigating interference from Sprint cell phone towers, as well and other system improvements.

You have to make a few changes. When a system like yours is rebanded, your scanner requires the entry of a special band plan in order to track the system correctly. I don't think this can be done from the front keypad.

I have a 396T and 996T and use USAD, and I like it. USAD is the programming software that Uniden provided when I got my scanner. USAD does not allow custom band plans that are required for rebanding. So I went with a program called Freescan. Freescan will let you enter the new "bandplan" required for your system.

How often do you program your scanner?
Do you have a computer?
What type of software do you use to program your scanner?
Do you still have the programming cable?

I hope this gets you started on your journey.

Actually your first task is to upgrade the scanner. The 396 doesn't come rebanding-ready out of the box, unlike it's newer XT brother. This article from our wiki gives you lots of links - including the all important link to the 396 page on the Uniden TWiki website

Updating the Firmware in Uniden DMA Scanners - The RadioReference Wiki

It's very important to follow the instructions *exactly*. Take no shortcuts, no matter how odd the step might seem.

Default well...

ok the charlotte system is rebanded
i have programmed the custom band settings
i am able to listen to the system
but what i mean is to custom scan the band 851-854
all i get is a quick tgid and silence
it shows who is on the air
the problem is that i don't see a way to reband the custom scan mode

and thanks i needed that info about a year ago
really
i have listened to police radios since 1970
and still have some time of it with these new ones

this might be a job for......UPMAN!

No it's a job for you...read my last message.

If the firmware on your 396 is not version 3 or better, you are NOT rebanding-ready. You need to upgrade your firmware - just putting in the custom tables will NOT work, because the firmware doesn't know how to understand them (you would also need to change the site type, because rebanding introduced a new one)

It's not a pretty procedure by any means - just be careful, be sure to use your AC adaptor to avoid power issues and follow every step precisely. Most of us that have done it have, at one pont or another, sweared loudly in 3 languages, but you can and should get through it

By default, custom searches use the standard band plan, resulting in the behavior you are seeing. You need to edit the band plan in the search options menu: Search for... --> Edit Custom --> Custom 1 --> Set C-Ch Only --> Set MOT BandPlan

(replace "Custom 1" with the actual search you want to edit)
