Default antenna puzzler

Hello all,

So my 396XT is working great (still gotta send it in for repair). Bought a cable and have been working my way through free scan and the database to get it right.

I know awhile back I had asked about antennas for the 396XT, got a lot of good answers, including the Homebrewed Off-Center Fed Dipole.

I'd like to do that and increase reception a tiny bit better than the antenna that came with it,but here's my problem.

I live in a rental property in my hometown and need to figure out if I did the Homebrewed Off-Center Fed Dipole or any antenna that mounts up high, how to get the cable into the building? Im not too sure on drilling a hole in the walls due to it being a rental.

Anybody have any suggestions as to remedy that?

Thanks

Can you post a pic or at least describe your window/windowframe situation there?
My method here was a bit more involved because I have those "California special" crankout windows, but what I did was locate the exact points where the plateglass seated in my aluminum windowframe, and then gently drilled two holes right between them just big enough to poke my two connectorless feedlines through, then I soldered the PL259 connectors onto the coaxes at the radio desk. You have to be real careful when drilling close to plateglass-it's very moody stuff.
When I leave this place, all I need to do is slip a couple finished studs in the holes. HTH
But if you have sliders, then k3cfc's link above will be the way to go.

I think the Comet CTC-50 window/door feed through would be perfect in this situation.

I made a simple offset centered dipole from TV rabbit ears for indoor use. It was mounted on a photographic tripod.

It was set up in a second floor listening post (traditional 2 story home) and worked quite well. YMMV.
