Question It is home patrol useful in rest of the world?

I want to upgrade to digital world, a p25 system in my locality, Venezuela. I know it is possible to create new system with favorite list; I would use only new systems with Home patrol. I love the record option. I have now BCT15, and BRT330, if I choice the BCD996xt. I think will not have problem to program it, but it not have the record option.

For the rest of the world, the best choice… Home patrol, or 996xt?

996xt gets my vote for a base/mobile scanner.

Homepatrol is great for auto updates if you are in the US and are not familiar with entering frequencies, but if you live outside of the US, it's probably not much benefit.

As long as the systems you are monitoring are not encrypted and conform to the P25 (phase 1) conventional or trunking 'standard', any of the current digital scanners should be able to monitor it.

If you want to record activity, use the excellent (and free) 'Freescan' program and a laptop.

It's very easy to program a P25 system into a HomePatrol favorites list, and you can completely ignore the entire US database that comes preloaded and can scan only your favorites list. The internal recording feature is really awesome, especially if you are recording while you're mobile. During playback, it displays all the screens as if you were listening live, including showing the talkgroup and radio ID.

As long as you don't mind spending a little bit of time programming your favorites lists using the Sentinel software, the HomePatrol would be an excellent scanner for use outside the US.
