Wink "New Home patrol 1"

I just recently purchased a brand new uniden home patrol 1, and recieved it in the mail this past monday. First i'll say this is my first uniden scanner in almost 3yrs, my previous was the bc346xt, which shortly after purchasing , our area finally went digital. I'm impressed with the performance of the home patrol so far on our p25 system. I also have a recently purchased gre 500 and it performs great, we've had signal issues past couple weeks with a tower, making the p25 system signal fair at best. Usually i get 4 bars signal and mostly 2 bars signal now, but will get full from time to time. We live out in the country with lots of trees around and mountain area. Anyway after comparing the home patrol and the gre 500, both on their stock antenna's, my gre 500 when it stops on a digital signal and has only 1 bar, it will set there a few seconds, no audio and then resume scanning again. The home patrol with almost always chat away with the same 1 bar of signal, and the audio is pretty clear . So far i'm finding the uniden to be more sensitive than my gre, and i'm quite satisfied overall with the performance of this scanner. It also receives well on conventional channels as well. Very nice job Uniden !!

If you haven't installed the 2.04.01 firmware update yet, then DON'T. Some HP-1 users say it really hosed up their reception of simulcast systems, while others say it improved reception. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks, for the heads up, but i had installed it as soon as i unpacked the radio. At that time i hadn't read about the issues with the update. I don't get the simulcast here, but fortunately my p25 digital reception is fine.

I'm glad your reception is OK. 2.04.01 seems to be a real crap shoot as far as its effect on reception goes. Very strange.

Enjoy your HP, it's a great scanner.
