Another BCT-15X Question
Okay I have the scanner in ID Search Mode on a trunked system, and when it finds one there is this loud noise I want to disable the sound if I can or make it a softer sound, how is it done?
Also 1 more question, is there any way to make it save found talk groups?
Thank You for any help on this.
Yes I have read the easier to read manual, and it was of no help on this.

Sounds like you have either channel alert set on or emergency alert or Beartracker alert enabled.
Beartracker Alert:
Menu / Set Bear Tracker / Set Alert / Set Alert Tone / Off
Easier to Read BCT15-X Scanner Manual alert
Channel Alert
Easier to Read BCT15-X Scanner Manual alert
Emergency Alert
Easier to Read BCT15-X Scanner Manual emergency alert
There's also Close Call alerts.
Just search the 15x manual for the word alert tone and you'll find all the ways that the scanner can be set up to beep at you.
---
Saving Talkgroup ID's, I don't see an automated function like the homepatrol has. But if one is displayed while in ID Search, you can follow these steps to save it:
Easier to Read BCT15-X Scanner Manual displayed ID
I use the ARC XT software from Butel, it has a computer control screen that logs talkgroup IDs. I leave it on for a day or two and at the end add those talkgroups to my notes and stored systems. Not sure if Freescan does this for free though.

Ronnie, is it this system?
American Electric Power (Eastern US) Trunking System, Multiple, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies
If it is, I noticed that there are a number of talkgroups listed under "Ohio" tagged as "Data bursts". While there are none 'listed' under Kentucky, that does not mean the utility doesn't use data there. At least I would think that that use would be system-wide. (Also see one under Virginia.)
When you get those, is it a different talkgroup each time, or maybe one of the same handful or so? You can lock those out, even without entering them, by either pressing <Function> then <L/O>, or <L/O> twice (quickly), to make it permanent. A single <L/O> press is only a temporary lockout, and one that clears at the next power cycle (off, then on) of the scanner.

Thank You, I'll give that a try.

To save a talk group.....when the talk group is active, press the E button and it will save it in a group and will automatically label the group "Saved" or "Saved TGIDs" or something like that. All other talk groups that you want to save for that system will go into that group.

Will this put an end to the dinging?
Because this is the only time it makes a sound is on a Trunked ID.
Plus I don't have it in the ID Search mode, just ID Scan.

I found the problem,it was a setting in IDTracker III.
I had stopped IDTracker to use FreeScan, and the sound went away, so I took a look to see what might be causing it, and found the problem in logging, and alerts.
The first pic is what I found, and the second is the way I now have it set.
No more alerts, and now enjoying this radio.

So the noise has been coming from your PC and not the Scanner?

Yes, I guess You could put it that way, it was the software I am using to logging new frequencies with.

Ok, that would have been great to know for diagnosis purposes.

Going back to your original question about saving found talk groups, very confusing. If you have it programmed for ID SCAN, the only talk groups that it will receive are the ones you already have programmed. There's no need to save them because they're already programmed into your scanner. In ID SEARCH it will receive ALL active talk groups, regardless of whether or not you have them programmed. With that said, if you want to save a talk group that you don't have programmed, proceed as I stated in my previous post.

I put it back to ID Scan when I thought that was my problem, now it's back on ID Search.
