Uniden BCD996XT UID TEXT TAGS
After long hours of trying to get the uid text tags to display what I wanted it to say instead of the uid number itself I was able to figure it out.I was able to get it to display on the scanner. I read the scanner with Freescan and put i before the numbers saved file and did the auto optimize and uploaded back to scanner now it is working perfect. All id's i put in shows the UID now as what i put example like Clark sherriff Dis, Floyd Sheriff Dis, and NAPD Dispatch. Now on to get all car numbers and others put in. Don't know if this has been covered as how to but just trying to be helpful if any one else would like to do it.
I used FreeScan 2.12 Thanks.

I have been trying to figure it out myself to set up the UID name. I have the 396xt. I updated to the new freescan.

If you put i in front of the TGID number and put and put a description in of what you want then upload with Freescan that's what I did. I tried several times with Proscan and could not get it to work. I love Proscan and bought it but just couldn't get it to work properly. After uploading to scanner with Freescan I read back from scanner did the auto optimize feature and uploaded back to scanner now it works perfectly and displays what I put in for the UID instead of the UID number in the middle of the scanner display.

I got it. I'll try it out later cause I have to get the other radio up and get the numbers to put in the 396xt.

Are you saying with ProScan, you can't get it to work? I just tested the UID text tags with ProScan by downloading the database then added a channel. In my case, I used i61463 for the TGID. Notice the "i" prepended to the UID. I then uploading the database to the scanner. Text tags appear on the scanner display. This is more of a scanner function then a software function.

Anytime bud. Glad you got it figured out. That radio is workhorse just like the 396XT. If you run across anymore issues and need some help give me a shout !

What I did with mine was in my "home" system that I monitor everyday, I set up a group and tagged is as the RID group and added all my radio ID's and text tags. I keep my 396XT on display mode 3 so it shows the alias under the talkgroup that the radio stops on. I use FreeScan for my programming.
The easiest way I found for me to track down the RID's I wanted was to use Trunk88 and watch for them, especially since we're undergoing a transition from a Type 2 system to a full P25 system.

Maybe I was doing something wrong but I could not get it to work with Proscan. I am gonna start all over and try it again using Proscan. I think my problem was I was trying to add the UID in the UID text tag lookup file hoping it would display on the scanner and not adding the UID as a channel and adding it that way. My apologies. Still trying to learn all this. I just seen a note somewhere as how to with Freescan and thought I would give it a shot.

I'll make the help file more clear. To program UID text tags, program just like a TGID except prepend a lower case "i" to the UID just like an I-CALL. Upload to the scanner after making changes to the database.
Form the Scanner Manual

If you program a Unit ID into a channel, you can assign an Alpha to the Unit ID. You program a Unit ID just like an iCall ID (press ./no then the Unit ID).
|
But now there is a problem for ProScan and other software programs that log channel activity. Without the lowercase "i" prepend to the UID, ProScan and other programs can detect the UID as expected. With the lower case "i" prepend to the UID, ProScan and other programs can not detect the UID and the log UID column will appear blank. ProScan solution is to prepend the Text Tag with a "%" percent symbol so ProScan can detect a UID and log the UID Text Tag.
The UID Lookup File is for logging UID's longer then 15 characters or if you don't care about the scanner display showing UID Text Tags, then the UID lookup file can be used too.
