Cool Popular Communications / UPMan! BCT15?

January 2006 issue of Popular Communications, page 8, has an article titled, Scanner Programming: Man-Machine Interface-Part-II, Dynamic Memory Programming for Trunked Systems, by Paul Opitz, aka UPMan! While I don't own a BCD396T, I found the article very informative, thanks Paul!

In the article, Paul mentions a new Uniden model, BCT15. This made me do a double-take, as I have not seen this model mentioned previously...not even here on RR. Sounds like a "Dynamic Memory" version of the BCT8! How about it Paul, any more details?

Thanks,
Bill Crocker

I noticed his comment about the new BCT-15 as soon as I picked up the Pop'Comm a couple of weeks ago. This is probably the scanner that he referrs to in the 996T thread - the one that will be debuted at the CES in a couple of weeks.

I actually hope it is a sucessor to the BCT-10 and BCT-12

The BCT-12 doesn't work in Michigan since MPSCS. But I've had it work within the last few years in Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana. The BCT-8/Pro2051 have some kind of special "Priority Only" mode that they recommend be used with the "Highway Patrol Alert" in Michigan, but I'm not sure exactly what that mode does. Are there mobile extenders in use, or could they be relying on some other method?

There is already a Yahoo Group.....only 1 member though:

Just a thought....if this scanner comes out and has dynamic memory and a similar set up to the BC246T this thing will be a HUGE hit. Hopefully Undien will keep it around $200. I may have to start a new radio fund . I thought I was through buying for a while but if the BCT15 is what we think it is.....then I will have to make room for it!

Yes you can program your own frequencies.

http://www.universal-radio.com/catal...ners/0115.html for frequency coverage. This is an analog only scanner. It is great!

Default Off topic avatar question for this thread

Please forgive me, I don't want to commit a thread hijack, but I couldn't help but notice the similarity between "airgeek's" and "kc8unj's" avatars above. Are you guys shooting radar at each other? it's just odd to see such similar, but different avatars.
