Default 796 Audio Quality Issue

A friend I had PGM'ed a 796 for brought it back with a digital audio problem. 796 had worked perfect for about three weeks. Audio breaks up really bad. First I checked PRI's---all off. I pulled the digital card and replaced it with mine. Still same problem. I looked at chart in audio quality menu and settings were default 533-1985-3342. He does not own a Nextel so that was not an issue. I warned him about pushing buttons on this radio and I do beleive he has honored that request. I would appreciate any input on this matter. Larry

Does he have the most recent firmware updates? There is one for the radio itself, and another for the APCO-25 digital card. Also, check the AC adapter, maybe it's getting noisy. Make sure the FM/NFM mode is correct also, as this can affect audio quality.

Sounds like a signal related issue, not the actual digital audio. Weak signal will mimick digital audio garble.

Thanks for the replys. No signal issue, the tower is in sight. As a matter of fact you can feel the RF on your skin. While reading the manual, HaHa I found the way to get past the wording and figured out how to reset the audio. Its cleared up. First time I ever saw this issue. Thanks, Larry
