Question need help, no sound on brand new bc72xlt!

hello, i am new to radio scanner, just got a brand new uniden bc72xlt. all seem to be working except no sound when found a frequency does not respond to volume adjust and squelch also the headphone plug. but the internal speaker does have very low hissing sound, it doesn't respond to any switch or plug either, have checked the battery.

If at first you don't succeed try a bigger hammer.
If all else fails explosives should do it.

If you program a weather channel frequency (i.e. search in the 162-163 MHz range), can you hear sound from the speaker or headphone jack?
