Default Please, I need your 996 advice!

This morning I ordered from Scanner Master for delivery tomorrow its 996 basic package.

Though I have into scanning since the late '60s and presntly my best scanner is a 796, with some trepidation, I got this new one coming.

Please tell me the practical nuts and bolts of how to begin enjoying this radio. I have developed many ARC 250 programs for my travels around the Southern US. Will I be able to cut and paste these into the ARC 996 programing software?

Another question. My existing PC USB cable and my office power supply for my 796 and 785, will both of these be useable with the 996?

What are the no-nos when dealing with the 996?

All advise eagerly anticipated.

Thanks!

Well, sit back, and relax, this may take several days....

Really it is more than can be written here. I don't even own one yet but I have done so much research into it that I honestly believe I could work one very well right out of the box. Plan on spending the weekend reading, and re-reading, and re-reading, and reading once more, the manual. Do research in the RR Wiki and this forum via searches. And above all...get some software to program it! I believe it comes with a programming cable. The FREE Uniden UASD software is pretty nice, but I believe the package comes with the ARC996 which is also very nice. I have been playing with the UASD for months getting it set up so when I finally do make the plunge I'll be ready to load it and let it run!!

As far as no-no's...forget everything you know regarding channels and banks.

Good luck!!
