Default BC 246T question

Just got a BC246T today and I've got it programmed already
when it is scanning there are 2 systems that I have programmed in that do not show up on the display.

all my systems are conventional except 2 that are trunked (the ones not displaying)

they are not locked out, I already checked

is this normal?
can it scan trunked & conventional at the same time?

They have to be in separate banks. Did you assign a quick key?

Are you able to use service search or weather scan and hear audio?

You can scan both conventional and trunked at the same time. When the trunked systems are in range you can hear you should be able to hear them. You may want to assign your systems quick keys so you can turn the trunked systems off when out of range.

Thanks DaveIN
OK, assigned most of my systems quick keys 0-9
the 2 in question are #6 & 7 when scanning it shows 1-0 after sys on display and as the different systems are scanned the digit flashes except it over skips #6 & 7

Edited from above
I put all my local systems in 1 group
the 2 trunked systems are in a seperate group #5 and it still skips over #5 when scanning
will it not show up if they are out of range
(sorry, the manual isn't very clear to me and it's been a loooong time since I've used a scanner)

Not sure what you mean by seperate groups.

There is some specific terminology that is used with these scanners, and "groups" is used to mean "groups of channels within a system." So, having "all your systems in one group" sounds inside-out.

As to the greyed out, if the systems are both assigned to their own system quick keys #5 and #6, and you have other systems assigned to system quick keys #1 and #2, then the next-to-last row of your display should look like:

S: 1 2 - - 5 6 - - - -

If it does, and quickly skips past 5 and 6, then there are several possibilities:

1) You've locked out the systems you assigned to 5 and 6 (this is different from enabling/disabling quick keys).

2) You have not correctly programmed the system (incorrect control channels, incorrect system type, etc)

3) You are not within range of the system (if the scanner cannot detect a control channel for Motorola systems, it will take milliseconds to check each channel then move on to the next system).

I think #3 is the answer
here is how I have it programmed
I have 15 different systems programmed so far
in the system information side of the uniden software I have:
Quick Key 1, seven towns (most listened to)
Quick Keys 2,3,4,6,7,8 are towns that I don't listen to all the time
Quick Key 5 & 6 are the ones that don't show up when scanning (both trunked, control codes and other info should be correct as I got them from the PD's themselves, they are not locked out but they are out of radio range from my house)

in the group information side of the screen of the software I have:
the town on system quick key 5, group quick key 1 for PD, 2 for FD
the town on system quick key 6, group quick key 3 for PD, 4 for FD

does that make sense or am I still confusing myself and everyone else?

Ok, easy test for #2 or #3: Disable all but SQK #5. Now, only that one system will be scanned. Press HOLD. You should hear the control channel. If not, you are out of range or don't have the correct control channel frequency stored. In those conditions, the scanner will fly past the system so fast that you'll never notice it being scanned.

ok when just System quick key 5 is on it does scan real fast (can't read upper display)
lower display reads ID Scan

so as I understand it now it will scan them when all systems are activated but just blows by when out of range?

That's right. If there is no signal present on any of the frequencies programmed for a Motorola or EDACS trunked system, the scanner will just blow by it (because if the system is in range, there will always be a constant control channel to receive...and if it isn't there, rescanning the channels isn't going to do anything other than waste scanning time).
