Default BCD396T DC Plug

Hey folks,

I have the Radio Shack DC plug 273-1859 for my 396T. Will the Radio Shack 270-1594 Plug work also? I see that the 273-1859 says 6-volt and the 270-1594 says 12-volt. I used the 12-volt one to power my BC296D. I assume that it will work with no problems? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Dont think so... 396T requires 6V and the output of the 270-1594 is 12V

Radio Shack DC plug 273-1859 (Watch out! that same one ruined my bcd396 today. I decided too use the Radio Shack DC plug 273-1859 with my bcd396 and it read on my LCD screen illegal voltage. So i quickly unplugged it, i then noticed a burned plastic smell. Now Guess what? The radio works fine, but you can no longer us the bearcat recharger the came with the radio. Every-time i plugged it in too the radio too recharge. It reads again Illegal voltage. Dam!! i can kick myself a hundred of times. Now its off too uniden for repair. BCD396T $49.50 for repair, plus $8.00 for shipping and a great radio gone for weeks until repair. Don't be like me and mess up your radio...

Cool

Sorry to hear that!! I have used that plug with my 396D with no problems at all. I would just like to have one that has ON/OFF on the plug so that i don't have to keep using the on/off on the scanner.

dick, just got a 396T and would like to use it in the car off 12-volts. i know the manual says it takes 6-volts so a straight connection is out of the question. i see that you're using the RS 6-Volt Vehicle DC-to-DC Adapter Model: 273-1859. the RS webpage indicates that something called an 'Adapaplug' is also needed. neber heard of such a thing and was wondering if you could share exactly how you're powering your 396T in your vehicle.

thanks

Radio Shack power adapters come with a generic plug at the end of the cord. You then get the correct Adaptaplug to fit your particular device. That way they don't have to stock dozens of different power adapters, only dozens of Adaptaplugs. If I recall, most of the power adapters include one free Adaptaplug.

Greetings

You are correct about the RS 273-1859.

But you must use: Model: Adaptaplug B Catalog #: 273-1705

Otherwise you'll possibly reverse the polarity and blow your system.

Hope this helps.

Oops - Almost forgot - Make SURE (+) is on the TIP side of the cable - not the (-).

The particular Adaptaplug doesn't control the polarity. The way that you plug it into the end of the cable determines the polarity. They can go either way to accommodate both polarities depending on your need.
