Ok, just got a new 396 and am going through the programming process and I ran into a snag and have some questions.

Now I have the frequencies plugged in and a few of the talkgroups. However, I cannot fiqure out how to assign the band plan.

Can I figure this out from the information I listed above, or do I need to look somewhere else? Is this information somewhere on the website?

Also, what is a simulcast? I want to program the Olmsted County frequencies and talkgroups and I noticed that there are several simulcast frequencies along with the "normal" frequencies. When I program Olmsted, do I need to program in the simulcast frequencies, or should I just input the "normal" frequencies?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

You do not have to worry about a band plan on APCO-25 systems. Only on MOT Type I and VHF and UHF systems.
If you can hear the simulcast system then program that in. You program the other trunked radio system in a NEW system in the radio, not in the same system in the radio as the simulcast.

KWRXXX-

Thanks for answering. I am kind of new to scanning, so my questions are probably dumb to the experienced user.

One more question about the band plan.

I noticed that the scanner I bought has some of the ARMER system already in the scanner. I noted that under the preprogrammed ARMER system, there is a band plan programmed in.

Thoughts?

Interesting.

I have a 396, I checked the ARMER in my preload file, and there is no Band plan in mine?

From what I have read in these Forums, I don't think a Band Plan is needed.

The scanner downloads (and saves) bandplans from P25 control channels.
Your 396 doesn't have a stored bandplan because you haven't monitored the system.
