Default Why a remote head?

I am reading the remote head post release thread thinking to myself, cool, I could mount a 996 in the vehicle hidden under a seat or in the trunk. Being the owner of a 996 (at home) and a 396 (everywhere else I go) I am having a hard time understanding why someone would by a remote head for their portable? Not judging anyone (I certainly have my share of just because items) just curious.. I have my 396 hanging on the dash in plain sight, why would I need to spend $200.00 for a remote head? Again, not judging just wanting to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks.

Bigger display and controls for one thing.

No offense taken to why I spent 2 clams for the remote... I did it because what John said; bigger display & the controls are a breeze. I don't like pushing the 396's volume down then turning as the RH96 has a volume & independent squelch knobs. I can disconnect my 396 in a flash and be portable. The function "programable" buttons I really like - example: I have F1 set to WX and it's "F1 + Big Knob push" and I'm getting WX. Besides, it's kind of cool to look at - I'm honest at least.

Some people would rather have the remote head. Personally I would put the 200 towards another scanner but if I had the money and a 396/996, which I am planning to get one or the other when my taxes come back, I would consider getting a remote head.

If you already have the 396 (or 330) and want to use it on the base or mobile without buying a 996, then this is another alternative.
