Default uniden 396 and scat systems

I have one frequency that is a edacs scat system, I have over 1 year listen to this scat systen with my uniden bc250d scanner with no problem. Now I have a 396t scanner and when I set this frequency up as a scat system the scanner starts to trunk this frequeny as a scat system but from time too time the scanner gets stuck on the frequency, from time to time when scanning the frequency as a scat system the scanner lets the noise come throught, the control noise, Is this happening with anyone else who is listening to a scat edacas system, ???

Hi,
Down here in Tasmania we have our state wide TASGRN which is based on EDACS with everything from 18 channel sites to single SCAT sites.

I have only done a small amount of scanning of the SCAT sites but as they only have a single frequency which is used for both the control data and voice I think it might be a case of the 396T getting a bit mixed up and letting some of the control channel thru?????

Nothing is on the screen it scans away and all of a sudden the control channel noise comes through intermittently.

I have the same problem with 3 SCAT sites in my area. The 396 never says "ID SCAN" or "ID SEARCH" when it encounters these systems. It only ever says SCAN. It seems as if the 396 does not actually get programmed correctly when system type SCAT is entered.

SCAT just means it mutes the control channel, it's not scanning or searching anything. It's not a 'trunked system' per se.

Hi Dave, When the frequency for the scat system 451.8125 and another scat system 452.8625 are set up as two different scat systems I see on the screen the word SCAN going across the screen from right to left and when the control noise breaks through from time to time it shows the frequency that is in the scat system.
I have always had this problem with the 396 since the day I got the scanner brand new, but now it's not under waranty anymore, Dave could this be fixed with a firmware up-date and if so were would I make a request for this to be done.

But it does have EDACS talkgroups! ETrunker shows them just fine. The scanner doesn't ever appear to search the scanlist or monitor any voice transmissions.

SCAT programming means it simply mutes the control channel, when a transmission starts it will unmute the control channel and you'll hear the audio.

Default Reply from Uniden on problem with scat systems

Your Question :
When the scanner is set up to scan a scat edacs system from time to time the scanner stops because the noise from the control channel comes through, is there a fix for this
Steve

Our Solution :
Thank you for using our system.

Please check your firmware and update it if needed otherwise the scanner will need to be sent in for service.

Sincerely,

You may respond to this message to update your question.

Also Uniden says they have had no complaints about this and are not aware of any problems scanning scat edacs systems.

Default Follow up

Is there anyone with a Uniden 396t scanner that has been able to get a one channel edacs scat system to work with there scanner, as you can see in my other posts I did get a response from Uniden about my problem and they say no one else has complained about having a problem with scat systems, If anyone else is having the same problem could you please send in your information to Uniden so they will see that I'm not the only one that has a problem and they may make a firmware upgrade to fix this.
Thank you.
Steve

I'm in Melbourne, with a new UBCD396T scanner. Not been able to pick up a single digital signal in 3 days. All I've managed to do is listen to a local FM Broadcast station!
For years I've listened to the cops on 468 - 469mHz on the old analog set. Starting to get a bit sick of it. Help needed urgently. Pref someone with ideas on Oz frequencies I presume. ThnX.

It's NOT a SCAT only problem, it happens on the Indiana SAFET Motorola Astro P25 system as well. This is a 3600b system. I don't what causes it but the same symptoms occur, where at times it will lock and have control channel noise then switch to audio. It sure isn't signal strangth related as it occurs on strong and weak systems.

I was not aware of any other problems with other trunked systems, have you gone to the Uniden web site and sent in a report about this problem, if more people start sending in problem reports they may take a look at this and make up a firmware download for us.
