BC296D and Base freq programming in VHF UHF Trunking mode

Hello
Has anyone experience in programming VHF Or UHF Trunking ??
If yes what exectly should be the base frequency ???
Lets say that a trunking system have a freq of 166.000 and its channel number is 304 can i enter it as a base freq and the channel as well ??
Or i have to enter a base freq that would be equivalent to the freq that would be as it is chanel 380 ? (in this case assuming 12.5 KC steps should i enter 165.950 As base freq with channel 380 as channel number ???

And what happened if i dont enter these at all ???
isnt the scanner scan all the freq entered in that bank and get from it all what it need to monitor ?????
