I had an early CRS and loved it for what it was. Especially because you could receive mil-air and that wasn't even advertised as a feature! (At least from the boxes..) Nope, don't need to go above 380mhz in my area for that.

Sipped power so that the three "backup" batteries enabled it to be used for 10 hours or so just on that - so it made an unusual desktop/portable when I wanted to throw it around on various home / work desks. Mostly used with back-of-set custom antenna.

I used the scanner bands more than the broadcast bands / clock actually. The shape and gray color kinda' reminded me of the British aircraft carriers with sloping decks.

Unfortunately, the higher frequency response (actually low frequency response) to help out broadcast made monitoring systems with PL's down to even 100hz was a bit annoying.

Wished for louder audio actually - seems like just a *TAD* more power would have really made it sing, but I kept things in perspective considering the three-AA backkup / operating capability.

Now THERE is a scanner design that I think Uniden could fit a couple of 18650 lithiums into safely (user replaceable of course), which would allow for a better audio amp / frequency response combo.

A Tecsun PL-880 uses a replaceable / rechargeable 18650 - and blasts audio. Wish Uniden (and other scanner makers) would take that leap.
