In your WX search mode you have SCR on.and not getting anything is normal, using the HOLD and manually going to the active noaa channel comes in as I replicated it here.
In your noaa custom search you have the "Set C-Ch Only" setting on If you do, set it to off.

Just scroll down in the radio main menu to "WX Operation" and scan noaa from there. I'm sure you will get them fine. The fact noaa does come in... strongly convinces me it's just a setting issue.

For your 850 to 870 custom you have the c-ch only setting off, no SCR seen, It should be on since that band is normally all trunked.

In the settings for Adams sites is there anything in the band plan? I just downloaded adams county here and that should have nothing in the "Edit Band Plan".

I would suggest you upload your 996xt file then we can look it over and probably find the issues.

I strongly feel again they are just settings issues is all. Your radio appears to be operating normally.

I suspect Ronaldski nailed it (or at least is pointing in the right direction). Use Freescan to read from scanner. Zip the file up and post it to the discussion thread. Then, we can directly review how you have the scanner programmed.

I have C-Ch Only OFF, Your missing the point, Its not about the Noaa weather, I have no interest in listening to the weather, My point I was making is its not stopping on the weather Nor is it stopping on anything in the 850mhz either, Nor is the close call even working and I know its not working because I checked it by transmitting in several different frequency ranges.. The whole point is the scanner will not work in custom search or quick search on any band...

boatanchors,
I think you have the Broadcast Screen NOAA WX on which will explain why it's not stopping on weather. Fix that first before testing the other bands.

Go to menu Srch/CloCall Opt -> Broadcast Screen -> Set Each Band -> NOAA WX
I bet it's on.

Sorry, but before sending it in I would still follow my latest advice. Read the scanner with Freescan and post the file here so that others can directly look at the programming. Squelch problem doesn't really make sense based on what you have described, here.

out of the several Uniden products I own I have to say i'm not the happiest camper with in the manor Uniden conducted there support over the phone, the whole thing has left a bad taste and honestly I'm seriously looking at going to the Unication G4 or G5. No its not a scanner but can scan what little we have here in Adams Co Ohio...

Ok, with it at factory reset, just make the one custom search that includes the weather band, verify that SCR is off and try it again.

Analog SQ detect seems fine as the CPU reacts to it. Do that freescan read and post the file. People with a 996 can easily load it and see if they also have that problem which would indicate some sort of hard to detect programming problem.

Just tried this one of my 996XT radios without a problem, I have 4 to choose from here.. First time I have ever fooled around with the Custom Search Mode on these radios, have done in on other radios over the years.

I just went in an manually set up everything and it seems to work fine.

Post your settings at least from the Custom Search screens, can easily compare to what I have set.

How many bars do you receive the Weather channels on when you manually tune to a frequency?

Might be a problem with the RF section of the scanner?

Set your squelch to 0 and see if it stops. Sounds like a bad squelch circuit as Uniden has suggested.

Setting the squelch to 0 should just open the squelch and then the until will stop searching because it is just listening to white noise.

Is it possible that somehow Tone Squelch is enabled if this is even an option?

Thanks Captain Obvious.

I had an old Bearcat 220RC that would stop receiving every so often. Opening the squelch would not stop the scan cycle. Turned out to be a cold solder joint in the squelch circuit.
