I for one don't mind the bulge. I just hope that Uniden will provide some sort of charging tray to be able to charge a second battery while the other one is in use. Having a second battery isn't much good if it isn't already charged up, and if the only way to charge it is if it's in the scanner....

One interesting thing that has developed with this battery situation is that multiple posters here on RR have expressed an interest in being able to purchase the smaller/original battery (and smaller battery door if also needed) from Uniden as a separate accessory. I wonder if Uniden even anticipated that ongoing demand for the smaller battery with the corresponding smaller form factor once the new/larger battery was released. At this point I wonder if they have any plans in supplying said battery to those who want it.

This reminds me of the older Motorola flip phones (StarTAC, V710, etc.) where you had your choice of different Motorola batteries to use with the phone. If you wanted a slimmer/lighter form factor you chose the regular "slim" battery and if you didn't mind the larger/heavier form factor you chose the high-capacity "fat" battery. It was all a matter of choice and was dependent on the way that you personally used your phone. The same principle applies here with the SDS100.

trp2525 that is a great point I do hope Uniden sees the need for this and makes this option for the users.
I also hope they get the drop in charger option to market soon. If wishing I am ready for the Mobile/Desk version of this scanner.

I bought the radio early so I'd have "1 Ĺ" batteries.

I like the looks of the bigger one, and will be glad when I have it so I have proper life out of it.

If you have no intention of buying the radio because of the looks of the bigger battery, or because you think development was botched or because it's too expensive, or because you don't want to give your email or physical address to Uniden because you're afraid they'll sell the info to the Martians your opinion is invalid to the discussion.

Knowing the restrictions for shipping lithium batteries that aren't packaged with their intended device, this is likely true...

Lithium ion batteries packed by themselves (Packing Instruction 965) (not contained in
or packed with equipment):
(a) must be shipped at a state of charge (SoC) not exceeding 30% of their rated
capacity. Cells and/or batteries at a SoC of greater than 30% may only be shipped
with the approval of the State of Origin and the State of the Operator under the
written conditions established by those authorities, see Special Provision A331;
and
(b) are forbidden for transport as cargo on passenger aircraft unless shipped under
exemption issued by all States concerned, see Special Provision A201.

the extra size doesn't bother me if it works and provides more run time. Just hope it fits in my trucks cup holder

This just means the package must be labeled "cargo only" when transported by air. (also, whatever carrier you use will need to have access to cargo aircraft)

Gents, I've deleted a bunch of off-topic back and forth amongst a few members which didn't directly pertain to the technical or logistical aspects of the battery on the SDS100. Keep in mind this is the Uniden Tech Support forum.

Please, if you want to debate Uniden's handling of the battery issue whether pro or con, please start a thread in the Uniden Tavern. Respectful discussion is always welcome here however we ask that it be in the proper place. People looking for help with the battery issue don't need to wade through a bunch of non-contributory posts.

Thanks.

Maybe some original owners who have the smaller battery will sell them ( for a reasonable price). We shall see.

Sorry if off topic, just wondering if the new battery and cover started shipping to the Canadian customers?

Thank you

Since it has not shipped to us in the USA yet I highly doubt it.

No, I prefer to get an external charger and used original battery as to lengthen my listing in!
