Unless you're right next to the transmitter antenna, you shouldn't be getting a -35dBm RSSI with the scanner antenna removed. I would suggest documenting the unit's issues on video, so you can send proof of malfunction to the Uniden techs.

Unhappy Another deaf SDS-100

And now my SDS (SN x227) has gone totally deaf, after exactly 2 months. It began with stopping on conventional channels with what sounded like open squelch, full-scale RSSI bar graph, RSSI -35 dBm, and no actual reception. It never sees a control channel on trunk systems, and no Weather broadcast reception. I did the 1.05.00 and 1.01.05 firmware upgrades, and pulled the battery; no change. It's going back to Uniden for repair.

Sounds almost exactly what happened with mine. I talked to Uniden repair today and they sent me a shipping label to return it. Fingers crossed for its second go-round.

Got mine back from Uniden repair today. Still doesn't receive anything! Hell, now I can't even scroll through the menu. Yes, I cleared user data and uploaded new programming. I'm about done with this scanner.

That seems like at least the second unit returned but not fixed ... did they provide any info with the repair on what they (think they) did while they had it?

They replaced J401. Guess it's a connector between boards. Seriously, do they even check to make sure the scanners work before returning them to customers?

Well, now I get to send it back to repair. At least this time I don't have to pay shipping.

Ah - same as the earlier repair - J401.

Sure doesn't sound like it....

Sounds like somebody at Uniden needs to be more diligent with post-repair function checks.

Customer service assures me they are checked to be in working order before they are returned. I told Caleb, apparently that is not true.

And then, after this failure, it started working again (but only for a few hours). Then it failed again. Since this seems to be an intermittent, the J401 problem sounds likely, if it's a connection between two PC boards.
