On this DESKTOP with PROSCAN CLIENT I just started it and it was ORANGE. Mostly I like GREEN or BLUE. I use a different color for each feed.

Now that I changed to the FEED computer I see HENDERSON, KY feed is BLUE while Evansville, IN feed is GREEN

It's always red for me, easy on the eyes at night, easy to read (usually), and matches the red lights of my interior.

I use green as primary all the time on both my 396XT and 996XT with the following alerts:

Steady White=EMS
Steady Blue=Police
Steady Red=Fire

Im a PROSCAN user also. I never use the backlight. But on my Desktop running PROSCAN on my BC780XLT its Black with White lettering , BCD996T Silver with Black lettering and the BDC996XT Green with Aqua lettering. This way I can tell what scanner is doing what.

I prefer the white on my 996xt. I agree some of the other colors are very dark. Wish it had the amber of the bct15x I had.

Exclamation 396XT Back light

Use the Yellow as the default back light
Fire - Magenta
Police - Cyan
EMS/Medical - White
Parks/Sanitation - Green
EMA/Mutual Aid - Red
Roads/Buses/Schools - Blue

I agree, the blue is too dark to really read the screen easily. The red is a little better than the blue but not by much. Would like to see an Orange in the mix somewhere.

I use white for default. It's easy to read and I don't subconsciously associate it with any particular service.

Fire = Red
Municipal Police Depts = Blue
EMS = Cyan
State Police / Sheriffs = Magenta
Fish & Wildlife = Green
Coast Guard / Fire HAZMAT = Yellow

Cool 396XT Backlight

Primarily use white and then depending on the agency, different colors are used:

Blue - Municipal Police / State Police
Green - Sheriff
Cyan - EMS
Red - Fire
Magenta - Hazmat
Yellow - Utilities

I wish the alert color would not revert back to the primary as long as the channel is busy.

I want to thank evryone who helped answer my question about how to program in the alert colors. I upgraded my software from FreeScan to ProScan and it was easy

Blue = Police
Red = Fire

Will play with the colors to get what I want.

I agree alert colors should stay during the whole transmission
