Yes Sir it does a Very Good Job for being a few years old i got the Antenna 3 /16 / 2004 I used it Quite extensively on my 780 that i had and on a Few Handhelds i had in the past) And it's done well on my 396 I like the one on the top picture slightly more because it's a SMA antenna and screws directly to my 396)

I wished Radio Shack would re-lease a SMA Version of the 800 if they would they'd have a time keeping it in Stock.

Default what i use on a 396t

google "cell phone beach chair"
it puts it at an angle that is easy to see
it does not really hold it but its been ok for like 8 years

wtp how about a Picture I think i'v seen one but wasn't for sure it's was a long time ago I'v also used my Motorola Pedestal to set my 396 on but the side protection for it is Not too Good..

With a 396 when the domestic power goes out in bad weather a supply of AA batteries will keep you scanning at a time when you need to know what is going on the most. Unless you have emergency power the 996 would be dark and silent.
