You may have meant bit-rate for bandwidth
Sample rate, bit rate, interest rate, sink rate all the same right? lol

Whatever the quality of the audio output is going to be the biggest part of the data.

Not really, but I see what you're trying to do here

Does your Wife use Voice apps via Wi-Fi as well? Those would be the ones most affected. Web based text apps should degrade gracefully enough. Your Wi-Fi is N? on A or B/G ? Or are you worried about your Internet connection itself... ? In this case, what's your ISP provided bandwidth upstream?
Well, I was actually discussing this with my wife tonight and she mentioned she was working on getting approval to upgrade to the 50Mbps plan (from 20), so it's probably moot at this point. But to answer your questions, she's hardwired and doesn't do any voice, just data, and we're using wireless N with U/DL speeds of roughly 11.5/17.5.

Thumbs up HRO

HRO (ham radio outlet) has them but has a $35.00 refundable reservation fee. They also offer free shipping...

Any beta testers encountered anything lately they can share? Kinda hard to discuss a device with little real-world experiences as baseline. This leads to speculation which is +/- as we know.

I don't think any beta testers will answer. First, that would lead to their identities being known to everyone. Which in turn would lead to a huge volume of IM's/e-mails of all kinds of requests. Second, I am pretty sure they would violate their beta tester agreement by discussing a yet to be released radio.

I disagree with the first two part concern as there are ways of dealing with that, but I'll respect the answer/position. As for the latter then UPMan what does the beta agreement cover/entail? Also for UPMan (assuming no one else is allowed to answer) please share day-day experiences.

You won't get anything from beta testers as that would violate their agreements and get them in trouble. You also probably won't get much from UPMan other than what he's shared so far and is planning to share in the near future by way of videos (as he's mentioned) of one of the radios or the other (or maybe both). Patience...

Hopefully Uniden will let you control the actual bit rate for the audio going to the app. I doubt everyone will need 44.1 or whatever it is and can get by with something like 16.
Really, the data for the text tags and control will be nothing compared to the voice, so it comes down to basically a VOIP connection. I'm sure they aren't going to send video over the connection, but rather data which is miniscule by comparison.

There should be a ton of Google-able answers to how much bandwidth a VOIP connection uses.

So the GRE 800 model has the advantage over the 536HP then? ........

It will do the same TDMA as the GRE PSR800, it won't do other flavors of TDMA like MOTOTRBO.

I noticed in the un-boxing Video that there was no Din sleeve included. Will the sleeve for the 996XT work with the 536HP?

Cool BCD536HP Wi-Fi

I am interested using the 'access point mode' option where we can connect up to 5 clients to the scanner. My question to the forum is if I wanted to use a different generic mobile Wi-Fi antenna for better range, what information does anyone have on the pros and cons of different antenna manufactures?

I would have thought that since more fire & EMS dispatches are "rung down" using the 6 burst DTMF signals rather than two tone, the new scanner would have had that feature to decode the DTMF signals, but no such luck :-(

With all due respect, I think that "more" must be relative to your area. Pretty much everywhere I have lived and been in the past 30 years has been exclusively two-tone in terms of alerting - and when it wasn't done that way, it was done with Zetron packet or something else.

Perhaps UpMan can answer this for me... Are there any plans for Uniden to offer the new models through Amazon.com? I'd to be able to pre-order using some of the gift cards I've received for Christmas.

DTMF decoding in a scanner would likely be unappreciated by those Dept's and agencies that transmit Knox Box codes via DTMF. Although, they don't seem to consider it a security risk that musically talented folks can do it in their heads......
