Default Request for BCD396T assistance

Good day all.

I am a scanning enthusiast with very little knowledge or experience. I have had a Uniden BCD396T for a little over a year now. I manually programed two systems into it. One for Hill AFB and another for Davis county UCAN. I've never had any problem tracking both systems until yesterday.

I have recently moved and my scanner has been boxed up for a month or so, so I cannot pinpoint the timeframe in which the issue arised. Anyway, I unboxed it and turned it on yesterday to see how the reception was in my new location. Hill AFB came in fine, but my Davis county system was silent. Didn't even see the periodic signal display when it passed over the control channel. I checked the database page for Utah at http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=601 and noticed that the UCAN freqs for Davis county were different than what I had programed in the radio. I created a new Motorola 800 MHz system with the updated frequencies. This time, the radio picks up a strong signal from the control channel, but I am not getting any traffic.

Can anybody shed some light on this issue?

Respectfully,
Hawwk

Have you installed the Uniden firmware update for your scanner to handle rebanding? Doesn't sound like it. UCAN is now a Motorola Custom when programing it in your scanner. If you are not seeing that option when you put the system in then your firmware is not up to date.

Actually he'd be better off starting on the Uniden wiki...

Thanks gents.

Looks like I need to download a software application from Uniden's site, buy a cable to hook it up to a computer and perform some updates. Not sure if it's worth the trouble, but we'll see.

Thanks again for the help! I really appreciate it!

Hawwk

Welcome to the Utah Forum of RR.com

Hawwkeye!

Yep, you are another fatality of the rebanding that the UCAN system has undergone. It is not a big problem, but it may be a little inconvenient. I would strongly urge you to go ahead and get the cable, the download from Uniden, and install the custom band plan as suggested by the other posts because it will be worth it in the long run.

Just as a way of explanation for you, all scanners have built in trunking tables for handling Motorola systems that they use to help them go to the proper voice frequency assigned by the Control Channel (CC). Those default trunking tables no longer define the frequencies correctly and a "custom" table must be installed so the scanner can once again make the proper calculations to acquire the right frequencies. A discussion on this page goes a little deeper into why the trunking tables must be changed. This thread is dedicated entirely to the rebanding of the Davis County frequencies. You should read it when you can find the time.

Once you have installed the proper custom plan, your scanner will understand Motorola CC's instructions whether or not the system has undergone rebanding. The Hill system is not affected, so that explains why you were still able to "hear" them.

Again, welcome. Pull up a chair, get comfy, and ask your questions. We're glad you are here.

Will do! Thanks!

*Edit* Tried to send you a PM but it appears your profile is set not to receive them. I also might not be authorized to send PMs since my account is so new. Will try again later.

Something's wrong here. Try sending your PM again. I just tried shootinnews PM utility and was not blocked. If you continue to have trouble, make a post in the Administration, Suggestions, and Site Help Forum describing what you did and what the results were. I've not heard of the Mods delaying a PM because of being a new member. Happens sometimes with posts.
