Default bcTool and a 396T

Hi all, it's been awhile...

I step away from the group for a few months, and you all go and take UCAN away? What gives?

Seriously, I'm having some issues reprogramming for re-banding. On the bcTool >Programming>'Trunk Frequencies' area there is a place for 'Motorola Band Plan'. It's listed like this:

Base Freq 1 __________
Step 1 __________
Offset 1 __________

Base Freq 2 __________
Step 2 __________
Offset 2 __________

Base Freq 3 __________
Step 3 __________
Offset 3 __________

Looking at the custom band plan there are 7 slots, but on bcTool only 3 are available for input.

Does anyone out there use a 396T and bcTool, and can you tell me what to put here to get this to work?

I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I checked but the discussions only go back to January 2009.

Now I'm thoroughly confused, and have been playing with this for the last 4 hours... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Currently BCTool does not support rebanding. FreeScan however does (it's generally better for programming anyway). It too is freeware, and the links can be found here;

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index...s_and_Software

The rebanding support is briefly explained in the user manual here...

Note that FreeScan has its own forums for support. For this screen to work, your 396 must be upgraded to v3 firmware or better. You can find the link in the Uniden wiki site from here...

This is the stock band plan Uniden is publishing for all their scanners that are upgraded for rebanding. But you have to go to Uniden and register to download their downloader program and the firmware update for your model. There will be all the information you need there.

For standard rebanded systems, you need to set Band Plan 1 and Band Plan 2 as:
Band Plan Base Freq (Lower) Base Freq (Upper) Offset Polarity Spacing
1 851.0250MHz 854.0000MHz 440 + 25 kHz
2 851.0125MHz 868.9875MHz 0 + 25 kHz

P.S. if you search back further there is a thread about BCD396T rebanding in here and I think the links are there.

Found it. Try reading this thread too.

Hi guys, thanks for the assist...

Where in FreeSCAN do I enter the Band Plans?

Pardon my newbness, please.

How did you Uniden users out there set your systems up for this? Under the old system I used to have it geographically, group 1 for local, group 2 for Cache, group 3 for Weber, group 4 Davis, etc. It worked great! Now I'm lost in the numbers again...

As mentioned previously, you enter them in the 'site' screen in FreeScan. You must change the system type to gain access to the rebanding tables. See the link below...

Freescan Create Site - The RadioReference Wiki

This assumes you have done the firmware updates for the 396 and are now at 3.02.02 level (I think that's the last version number...). New off the shelf 396s tend to be at firmware 1.13.17 73 Mike

I think I've got it, it's even tracking in Davis now, so I'm assuming I did it correctly!

Thanks everyone for your help!
