Smile UtahAlerts Twitter Update

Just wanted to pass along an update of the Twitter service we have been providing. First a few numbers; the UtahAlerts Twitter feed currently is being followed by 211 people. These followers include, news, government agencies, businesses and individuals. Since starting we have sent out 199 Alerts. These are some great stats!

As we grow we still need more dispatchers and alerts sent out. A reminder to try and give as specific detail as possible. Details should include type, location, channels, and other information. Since we are being monitored by some very great agencies we want to provide information that could be valuable in the work they do.

Again a huge thank you to everyone that currently sends alerts!!

I was once a member of National Incident Notification Network (NINN) a nationwide alert group.
I gave up on the group because they demanded we provide specific information in a certain format.
State, County, City, Type of incident, Agencies involved, Talk Groups AND Frequencies, and after all that, I get to say what happened. When I send or receive an alert, I prefer brief information that will allow any of us to tune into the action. I don't want the eqivalent of a press release.

I can send an alert from my web enabled phone. Here's what it takes:
2 min avg time to bring up internet.
1 min to scroll thru menus and get to yahoo mail.
1 min to bring up compose and type in utalerts800@twittermail.
1 min to type in text and get a successful send.

If it fails to send or if I make a mistake, it takes longer.

How great it would be if I could just send an SMS txt to 40404.
