If you get the chance the Indianapolis P-25 system MECA is something else to listen to. Imagine UCAN as a full P-25 and you are getting close to what this is. The weirdest thing is the fire dispatch is a computer voice generated.

Pretty cool system and the Pro-106 handles it like a champ.

Idaho's IIMARS system is not unlike what you are describing. I monitored it a couple of months ago (not a lot of terribly exciting traffic), and it was fun to listen to. You can definitely hear the difference in the voice encoding (sometimes it is very garbled). Also, Dallas and Plano, TX use the computer aided dispatch on their analog systems to do the initial dispatch and channel assignment.
