Default New Guy Here

Just dropping by to introduce myself. My name is Justin and I bought a scanner, LOL. I'm a computer/car guy by day, and I guess mostly the same at night.

I borrowed a friends Pro-96 a few years ago and had a blast listening on it. Just recently aother friend of mine was using his phone to listen to the few scanners broadcast online and it re-peaked my interest in all this.

When I was borrowing the Pro-96 it was all foreign to me completely. He had a few different banks programmed I could choose from, but I really did not understand it. So remembering that, when I bought a scanner I went for the most idiot friendly one I could find... the HP-1.

Sure I was up and listening pretty quick, but I wanted more. I remember my friends Pro-96 picking up the more interesting TGs (JCAT and so on) and I noticed those are not exactly in the RR database (for fairly obvious reasons actually). So I started reading, and reading more. The Uniden Sentinel software is cake to me now and I understand how all of this works. I am now scanning UCAN for TGs that are not in the database, and I have located the TGs I was looking for, at least some of them I am sure.

So I am already wanting to get another scanner that is not quite as user friendly. The programming aspect is a lot more fun than I thought it would be. It would also be nice to have another scanner going so I don't miss any action.

I know the tactical channels arent listed and I don't expect anyone to just spill the beans, but I would love if someone could assist me in labeling these properly. I have quite a few hours of audio recorded so I have a fairly good idea of what is what but a more official name would be nice.

Anyways, nice to be here. I plan on sticking around for a while.

Edit: Looks like I registered here back in 2008, so that would have been when I was borrowing the Pro-96.

Looks more like a Welcome BACK. I hope you have time to really enjoy it. There are many people on here who would be more than willing to help out if you need it. That HP-1 is suppose to be a good scanner. Make sure you do all the software and firmware updates so you can get the most out of it.

Thanks for the welcome guys. So far I've been having a lot of fun.

I finally had a chance to go thru all my recordings to find the 'fun' stuff and just got the new list of TGIDs loaded onto the HP-1.

I bought a RS 800mhz antenna for it, but the reception really didn't change on the trunked systems. So I plan on keeping the stocker on there for now as I feel its lighter weight is probably safer when I am toting this thing around.

I need to do a little more research, but it seems like the HP-1 isn't nearly as sensitive in the mid 900mhz range. It could be my antennas as well, but I figured being line of sight to Farnsworth Peak would allow me to pick up some local radio stations STL signals a bit better than I am.

Either way, this is fun.
