Default G5 blown front end

As noted in the earlier Aero thread and comments on EHam, this radio evidently has a very similar issue to the one encountered by the old ICF2010 where early versions had a tendency to blow the N channel FET if you accidentally zap the antenna input (in the G5 case, the whip) with a static charge. Later 2010s had a diode added to prevent this issue.

As I understand it, later versions of the G5 have also had some diode protection added, and I see Kiwa is now doing the mod. However if you want to slap something together without opening the radio up, I came up with this site by searching around in the RadioIntel website. A good basic project for just about anyone...
