Default "Double Talk"

Wednesday 6-18

Lots of coded traffic from a station with tactical call sign "Double Talk." Is anyone familiar with this station? Most traffic today from that station by a female operator.

Good signal in Central USA.

Default looking glass/nightwatch and devil fox

Evening, LOOKING GLASS calling NIGHTWATCH on 11175 and 8992 twice. Same operator 30 seconds later with EAM (missed most of it) signed off as DEVIL FOX.
Caught my attention with the looking glass/nightwatch callsigns
Regards
Andy

Default BIG STATION

Just caught two messages from BIG STATION, which definitely sounded like an aircraft. Frequency was 8776u, and the time was roughly 0720z to maybe 0725z. I only caught the tail end of the first message, but the op concluded it with "more to follow" and then immediately went into a 41 character EAM type message:

HSX5ZFOAM6RZIOR ...

Is 8776 a typical freq associated with HF-GCS?

After the 41 character message, BIG STATION said he was standing by for traffic. No immediate replies, so "BIG STATION out". At approx. 0728z a very weak station called BIG STATION directly, apparently passing some kind of message which BIG STATION acknowledged. The op calling BIG STATION was male, and seemed to have a British or possibly Australian accent.

BIG STATION was very strong here in Anchorage, and clearly sounded like an aircraft to me based on the background noise.

Cool

Copying now Mike. You're hearing the last 1/3rd of a 24-hour comm exercise that started Wednesday morning. It ends tomorrow at 0700 PDT.

These EAMs are from E-6 or other aircraft and use the discrete frequencies. So 6697, 8776, 11244 and 13155 are the usual discretes.

So I had DRAG RACE on at H+40 and BIG STATION on at H+50.

BIG STATION has some transmitter problems. Here's a screenshot with his multiple harmonics:

Heard some radio checks with Offutt today.

1. Alpha Charlie 2670 and
2. Lima Charlie -----#### , broke up and faint. (These two, may have been together)
3. Jake 175 (KC135??)
4. X-RAY 998, if anyone knows about this one , I would be interested. The only X-RAY call sign I could
find was for a group of U2r planes. I actually THINK it really was a U2.

Also heard SKYKING message at 1940UTC. Pretty decent couple hours for me. Mike

Anyone notice there has been a continuous jamming type signal on or near 11175 for at least two hours now?

That signal on 11175 kHz is a Rockwell TE204 modem, AN/USC-11 modem.

nick, not sure what is going on with that E-6, but it always seems to be an E-6 that does that multiple spur thing. The spurs are spaced every 3.66 kHz and you can tune to any of them and understand it clear as day.

Here is a shot of an E-6 with callsign Hipbone doing it in 2011:

And this is a shot of an E-6 with callsign Skymaster in 2012:

I have other recordings of E-6's doing this, those are the only 2 images I have online though. Never have figured out if it is always the same E-6 or not though.

Default New to Site- What is up with Mil HF communications

I'm looking into a possible rumor regarding the jamming of military communications. I started at the beginning of the topic posts, (2011) but don't have time to read 34 pages today as I still have to check my guitar tube amp forums and other routine media outlets and perform other routine life tasks like eat and play.

Past experiences with radio and electronics in late 60's as hobbyist in youth. Retaking up electronic hobby in later life- After life? Radio electronics and tube amps etc... Computer electronics career history.

btw- Some of you have really nice toys- i.e. spectrum analyzers and all.

Main Question

It is being reported that someone is jamming the 11175 and 13200 khz mil communications bands.

Is this just a test-drill, unknown, rumor? Or effort by foreign players to mess with out HF system?

Thanks for any insights you all may provide and pleased to meet everybody for the first time here,

germanium.
