I have been monitoring the Cothen frequencies and have not heard one thing. All I hear are weird noises. Has anyone heard anything? Is there one frequency I should monitor during the day and one at night? Any insight will be appreciated.

Nope, you're going to need to dig a little - those 'wierd noises' you heard might be ALE. There are packages available to decode this - PC-ALE and MultiPSK being but two of them. This article has some links..,

ALE - The RadioReference Wiki

One thing ALE does very well is that it assists an operator in finding an optimum HF frequency in a path. Unfortunately we as hobby folks don't have access to that algorithm (AFAIK), so you need to check each frequency, wait for a squawk and see if an operator connects.

That is only one posssibility, of course...

best regards..Mike
