Well folks,

Looks like hurricane Irene is making it's way across the Bahamas right now on the way to the East Coast.

The Amateur Radio Hurricane Watch net us currently active on 14325.0 KHz USB in Spanish and English.

You might also keep an eye on 13927.0 KHz USB for hurricane hunters making phone patches through MARS operators.

As things get closer we might sticky this thread. We'll also most likely get a dedicated Wiki page up for this hurricane depending on track and further updates.

Thanks,

No need for a net in Maryland right now, she's still way too far away to have any impact.

I live NE Florida. I have a alinco djx10T scanner (0.1000-1999.9950). I have try those Freq's above not able to get 14325.0 KHz USB and 13927.0 KHz USB. I can put 1432 but not able to put that 5.0 in there unless I need a different radio? Where can anyone find the Hurricane Airplane freq's at?

It might help to enter 14 (dot) 325 instead. ;)

Just note that you won't be able to pick them up on the stock antenna. You would need a shortwave antenna.

We have 2 lists in our wiki that, while somewhat dated, may provide a clue as to what to listen for...

Utility Monitoring - The RadioReference Wiki

Yes, I would include the MWARA stuff, USCG, and I wouldn't rule out the recently announced WLO RTTY news feed either (see the digital decoding forum) as a potential source of news

Unfortunately I won't be able to do anything with it - I have RFI issues that I've never been able to solve, and likely won't for some time - DRAT!

best regards..Mike

WAY out of date! The HH base was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew many years ago. Use the lists in the article I just posted...best regards..Mike

Don't the hunters mostly use satcom for primary and HF-GCS for secondary and phone patches?

Yup - and at least in the past, they've made numerous phone patches on 13927USB - listen for 'Teal' callsigns, if memory serves...73 Mike

Just heard some traffic on 13.927. It was too noisy to make out exactly what they were saying though.

What time UTC is the next flight? I can't seem to find today's schedule. This thing has got us in RI center bulls eye!
