Default 9031.0 USB COMPUTEX Exercises

East Coast US Navy COMPUTEX exercices are currently being heard on:

9031.0 USB (Daytime use)
5717.0 USB (might have been kicked off by Canada )
3050.0 USB (Nighttime use)

Continuous nets running - all from Link-11 coordination to simulated air defense nets.

Just to review, COMPUTEX exercises (Composite Unit Training Exercises) are typically held to test a Carrier Battle Group's readiness before deployment overseas. They are also designed to test interoperation between NATO and friendly forces during major events.

Always active and good listening. Folks on the east coast should get them all day. Nighttime reception will be widespread between the midwest USA through Europe.

Anyone know what the deal is with the "Whistle" on the transmissions from HOTEL WHISKEY?

Almost sounds like mic feedback. I have noted this "Whistle" on past exercises. Its almost always on the net control station. Maybe its a generated tone to indicate net control status? Or just real bad feedback.

My take on the whistle is that the radio room has multiple HF receivers. Although tuned to a different frequency there is feed-back when the mic is keyed.
9031 Still active 1600 UTC 1-25

HOTEL and HOTEL CHARLIE must be the closest ships to my geographic location in the Atlantic as their signals are much stronger than the other ships. Even when conditions fade during the day I can still hear them loud and clear from S7 to S9+ here in RI. My antenna is pointing to the North Atlantic or north east of my location.

My take is that the people being heard generally aren't located in a "radio room."
