Question Need help programing VX 160

I have a vx160, usb programing cable, ce44 software and laptop that is running on windows XP. I have reduced the baud rate to 1200, reduced the trans/rec buffers to minimum and tried with and without the FIFO buffers on, but can not get he radio to upload. I have gotten the program to bounce between "Please wait" and "retry", but eventually goes to check to see if you connected to the com port. Is there a certain procedure or setting that I have missed? Any imput or help would be appreciated.

Default Vertex VX-160

Hello,

If I remember correctly the CE44 software is DOS based software and probably doesn't have very good support for the USB cable that you are using. I don't really have an answer for you as I have not used the USB cables, always the DB9 cable. Maybe you can try to rename your USB port to port 1 (that should be what the software is looking for) and try it that way. If I am correct and CE44 is DOS, maybe try using an older computer with Win98 on it.

That's just my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.

Thanks for your reply ambdrvr..they have a windows and a dos version of CE-44..I can currently read the radio with no problem..but how ever when I write the radio it starts writing, and half way through it downloading it hiccups and doesn't program. My VX-354 which uses CE-86 I use a USB cable for and it works..I only get issues some times, I just have to restart the program and its fine, and as for using a DB9 I wish I could but my laptop does not support that.
