Questions about Vertex Standard Radios!!

I am looking at the VX 354. I was just wondering if you needed a license to operate this radio. Also, can you listen to police and fire channels on this radio?

Yaesu makes good 2 way radios, but they are not scanners. The 354 is a commercial radio and requires software for programming frequencies. The keys are used to program functions such as power output or dual watch (another hint it isn't a scanner). Any transmitting without a license on any radio is subject to big fines.

I agree with the other suggestions from the "people that know" judging buy your other posts. you do NOT need a radio that transmits just to talk to "your friend" down the street, three suggestions

1) If you "must" talk to your friend down the street....FRS radio from wally world, radio shack, hell, the local flea market. cheap, no license, NO FCC KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR WITH FINES OR CUFFS!

or

2)get your ham license

3) buy a "SCANNER" to "LISTEN" to whats going on.

If FRS doesn't provide the range you need, CB's are sold everywhere and ham licenses are EASY to get these days.

my 3 year old could pass the test. BUT...... you have to follow the rules or you get a free hotel stay complements of the local law enforcement for the ONE wrong thing done.

Vertex vx-2200 mobile radio. I plug my new external speaker in the headphone jack on the back of the radio and the internal speakers cuts off. How can I get the internal speakers to stay on when the external speaker is plugged in. Thanks
